Activities Report 1998 – 2011
Vorwort
The Austrian Society of Neuropsychopharmacology and Biological
Psychiatry (ÖGPB) was founded on 17th June 1998 in Vienna and the
founding members were members of the Department of Psychiatry of
the Medical University of Vienna as well as of Public Hospitals and of
the Psychosocial Services of Vienna. The aim of the Society has been to
support research as well as continuous medical education on the topic
of neuropsychopharmacology and biological psychiatry. Furthermore,
it was one of the aims defined to inform the public on the current un-
derstanding of psychiatric topics. The founding members agreed to have
congresses on the topic of neuropsychopharmacology and biological
psychiatry as well as to publish consensus statements on different topics
in clinically relevant areas where psychotropic medication is used and
biological changes have been assumed.
Troughout the years the ÖGPB attracted a large number of colleagues
as members (now 401) and the annual conferences, traditionally held
in November, supplement the Austrian conferences on psychiatry and
psychotherapy with a specific focus on neuropsychopharmacology and
biological psychiatry. Since psychotropic medication is used also in ge-
neral practices specific symposia are directed to general practitioners.
More than 20 consensus statements and specific expertises have been
published with members of the ÖGPB and the topics also were presented
in press conferences to reach the public via general media.
To support young colleagues the awards for clinical psychiatry, schizo-
phrenia as well as bipolar disorders were given to promising colleagues
in the field based on their published works in internationally renowned
journals as well as on case reports that demonstrated their detailed
knowledge of the field. In order to reach doctors in the time of their spe-
cialisation in psychiatry and psychotherapy, specific educational courses
have been arranged in the ÖGPB Academy where colleagues were able to
obtain the latest news as well as an understanding of the topics related
to psychiatric diagnoses and treatment possibilities in an psycho-social-
biological context.
It is our great pleasure to present to you this summary of the activities of
our Society and we do hope that the ÖGPB will florish in the next decade
for a better understanding and treatment of our patients.

liniCum neuropsy is the official organ of the ÖGPB which has been published since

2001. The Journal is released six times a year and its circulation currently accounts for
11.500 pieces. The audience includes not only psychiatrists and neurologists but also
