apart the situati on in th e garden is relaxed. Th e ho use has now been let fo r 10 years and 7 chi ldren have grown up in it.
U nser erstes Bauwerk erschien der Bauverwa ltung im nach hinein zu lang gerat en und so unterstGtzt e sie den W unsch unserer Bauherre n, stan einern plane-
risch vo rgesehene n Doppelhaus zwei einzelne C ebaude zu errichte n. Es entstand eine klein e Gruppe vo n komp akten Volumen urn einen gemeinsamen Platz.

ho mes instead of t he pro posed semi-detac hed ho use.T he result is a small grou p of com pact build ings arra nged aro und a communal square. Th e fully glazed
living areas loo k out onto th e pri vate garde ns: the functiona l ro o ms, slightly mo re enclosed, towards the square. H igh timber fences, with ro tat ing lamella, adjust
to suit t he mood of th e resident s.

It was difficult for the m t o let go of th e apartment they had come t o love. H ow ever,th e space in th e build ing designed by t he architect vomotze-

own access fo r th e growi ng-up childre n, t he t op floor fo r the parents and a level in between for com munal living.

Ein steinerner Sockel nimmt beinahe das ganze Grundstuck ein. The histor ical building housing th e NRW Bank in Munster had to be enlarged.A glassbuilding with a crysta lline appearance wraps itself around th e old structure. The pro truding element funct ions as a new ent rance.T he solid base takes up mo st of th e plot. D ie Gemeinde Pullach ist stotz auf ihre Baubeschrankungen. Strenge Au flagen zu Dachform und Hohene ntwic klung fiihrten zu einem Haus mit zwei Bereichen. Umg eben von zweigescho ssigen, hohen und lichten A ufenthaltsraume n liegt ein innerer dreigeschossiger Kem mit redu zierten Raum h6he n fUr N ebenraume und de r D achkanzel als Ort fUr Ruckzug und Arbe it. The mu nicipality o f Pullach is pro ud of its building restri ctions. Strict regulations regarding roo f shape and heights led to a hou se with two areas.A two-storey element w ith high, light liVing and sleeping quarters surrounds a three -storey core w it h low er ceiling heights for funct ional ro oms and a roo f studio as a place to retreat and work. Un ser Zie l w ar es die Stadth alle der 20er Jahre wi eder auf ihre elegante und zuruckhaltend e Erscheinung der Erbauungszeit zurUckzufUhren. Der Erwe iterungs- bau legt sich mit einem Schwung um den A ltbau und schiebt sich w eit in den neuen Platz. D as Ensemble ist in Weil1 und historischem Hellblau gefasst. O ur aim w as to ret urn th e t own hall,wh ich was built in t he 20's,to its elegant but slight ly re serv ed appearance as found in th e original buildingT he ext ension en- velops th e old building in a single grand gesture and reaches out far int o the new square.T he architectural ensem ble is kept in wh ite and tradition al light blue.

Das Konzept war entwic kelt. das Erscheinungsbild sollt e einheitlich bleiben. innen waren aile individuellen WOnsche erlaubt. VerblOffend homogen und fr iedfertig entstand in gemeinschaftlicher A nstren gung die Siedlung. The plan was to develop a residenti al area w it ho ut involvement of a property develope r and without speculative oper ations.A resident ial area whic h t he owne r of the plot would enjoy w alking through years later.The plot was t here . two dwe lling units were to be retaine d for th e daught ers. and clients for th e remaining plots were selected. A concept had been established, the outer appearance was supposed to be uniform, the design of th e int erior was up t o each client. Spiralfcrmig. dem Ausb lick folgend. vom Freisitz im Garten hinauf zum crwunschten Bergblick. Hohlenforrnige Dusch- und WC- Bereiche im Kern stehen im Gegensatz zu hohen und we iten Wohnbereichen. Eine zentra le Spindeltreppe verbindet aile Geschosse und bildet eine alternative Erschlief3ungzum grof3zugigen Umgang. A south-facing slope with a stream in a popular residential areadose to LakeSternberg.The owner of the plot right next door.A concept with five elements
scattered across the slope in a playful way. Two of the plots havebeen sold undeveloped; three of them have been developed by the client. The volume has
been designedas a prototype with repetitive elements,which are simplyrotated or mirrored according to demand.

The aim was to creat e an elegant and modem mansion.We were very impressed by the yacht t he client s had on ly recent ly purchased.Two peo ple, two dogs and two car s were to feel at ho me .With a view across th e lake, a large kenne l for the dogs and park ing in th e spa, everybody's needs were met . Das historische Rathaus in Landsberg am Lech wurde 1765 von Dominikus Z immerman n erbaut. In einem eingeladenen Wettbewerb suchte die Stadt nach Losungen zur Erweiterungen des Baudenkmals.Der historische Sitzungssaal war zu klein geworden und eine beh indertengerechte Erschliel1ung und ein zweite r Rettungsweg aus.dern Altbau fehlten. U nser Beitrag kon nte sich durchsetzen.W ir verlegte n das Fremd enverkehr samt aus der Mitt e des Altbaus in die nbrdl iche Gewblbeachse und konnten so die historische D urchfahrt in den Hinterbof w ieder off-eo. The historical town hall in Landsberg am Lech was built by Do minikus Zi mmerman n in 17 65. A small invited co mpetition was initiated to look for a solut ion to extend t he listed building.The original council chambe r had beco me too small, and th e old building lacked access for disabled peop le and a second escape route. Ou r design was accepted. We moved th e tourist office from the centre of the old bu ilding int o the northern vaults and were there fore able to reope n the ancient archway to t he rear courtyard . De n neuen Ratssaal entwickelten w ir im O bergeschol1 und stellten das ErdgeschorJ Gberw iegend frei. Mit neuem Foyer und Gastronom iebereich entstand eine neue attraktive Querverbindung in der historis chen Altstadt und Belebung der Brachflachen. Die Bauherren entschieden sich, und so ist unter strengen wirtsehaftlichenVorgabendas letzte Haus der Siedlung erst jetzt ent- standen. The plot. which had first been considered, proved to o expensive and was very restricted from a buildingregulations point of view. After careful analysis. the clients actually felt far more at home in the 60's resident ial areanearby with its carpet pattem coverage.There was a single undeveloped plot for sale. Despite the tight regulations, only allowing a bungalow with an atrium courtyard. Notwith standing the very tight budget the last house in this residential area has just been completed.

Die Assoziationen mit den Themen des nahen Sees gefielen den Bauherre n.Tiefe Dachuberstande schUtzen nun die gro13en Verglasungen zum See hin, wah-e nd sicn die andere Selte zur angrenzenden Bahnlinie schlief3t. Colleagues had already tried to fulf il the client's dream o f a house in a modem classic style w ith a flat roo f. However; the building autho rity wouldn't grant planning permi ssion since the develop ment plan only permitted saddle roofs .This is where our free interp retat ion o f the rules came.The elder ly couple liked our way o f dealing w ith t he nearby lake. Extensive roof overhangs protect the fully glazed wall s looking out onto the lake, wherea s t he opposite side, facing the train t racks, is d osed. Die Sparkasse Landsberg am Lech hat fUr ihre Geschaftsstelle am Eingang der- Stadt einen Wettbewerb ausgelobt. Unser Beitrag soilte die stadtebauliche Situation starken. Z usammen mit dem Giebel des gegenOberliegenden Kloste-s w ird der Raum gefasst.Ein Knick in der Fassade. entlang der MOnchner Stra13e. verstarkt diese Wirkung.Viergeschossige Reihenhauser im ruckwartigen Bereich erganzen die Anlage. Daswar auch unser Ansatz. Wir interpretiert en auch die Offnungen der Ursprungsbauten. Der Preistragerblieb abstrakt. A competition was initiated to reconstruct t he destroyed t-teisterhauser in the historical Bauhaus-Siedlung in Dessau.The award winner int erpreted the white cubes of the historical predecessors by creating replicasas black,monolit hic sculptures.This was also our approach.We also int erpreted the apertures of the original buildings.The award winner's approach was more abstract. Eine HGtte mit langer Geschichte.Einst Bootshausauf Pfahlenim See,musste sie wegen groGer Eisschube um 1910 an Land gezogenwerden,wanderte uber die Jahre hoch an die jetzige Stelle und gab in den Munchner Bombennacht en des 2.Weltkrieges der Familie Unterschlupf Man hing an der HGtte. Und da auch nicht jeder 5chritt der Baugeschichte behordlich angezeigt wurde, kam nur eine Sanierung in Frage: N euer lnnenausbau. eine grol'3zugige Befenster ung und Schiebeladen fur jene Tage, an denen man die k1eine Datscha nicht nutzt. A cottage with a long story.Once a boat house on piles in the lake, it had to be pulled up onto land due to incredible ice format ions in 1910. Over t he years, it moved up the slope to where it stands today and provided the family with shelter during the Munich bombings in the Second World War.The cottage is cherished. Because not every step during t he long history of the house hasbeen registered by t he authorities,it was only possible to perform refurbishments: A new inter ior,generous window format s and movable shutters for the days when the cottage is not being used. A new co mmu nity and cultura l centre for Altotting, possibly the most renowned place of pilgri mage in Bavaria.The plot on the border between t he dense old town and more open stru ctures, bet we en the main square with th e pilgrimage church and t he solitary, circular Panor ama building in th e fruit orc hard. Our design envisioned an urban square w it h com munity facilities t o fit into the sequence of urban space and as a transition point to th e histor ical old t ow n.

D ie grofse Geste der Stahlbeto nkassettendecke aus der Erbauungszeit war noch vorha nden, die ursprtlnglich umlaufenden H olzeinbauten abhanden gekomme n. D iese Elemente wurden w ieder hergestellt und in ihrer Er scheinung gescharft. Entmaterial isiert erganzt und t ransluzent hinterleuch tet die raornliche Umh ullung Since the digitalisation of patent records,the patent presentat ion hall of the Germa n Patent and Trade Mark O ffice (D PMA) has been used only o ccasionally as a small funct ion roo m.A decision was made to reinvigorate t he space as a large function and conference room.The remarkable reinforced concre te waff le ceiling from th e original constr uction was still in place; th e surrounding wo ode n panelling no longer.These elements we re carefu lly reinstated and th eir appearance enhanced. Especially from a spatial point of view, th e yout h centre in N eugablonz had to be arranged around the sports field and co mpete with t he 50's architect ure of the surro undings.We envisioned a dynamic shape in correspondence to th e nearby crossroad and features rem iniscent of pavilions from t his era. Sehr enders und so sehr anders. dass es,zumindest bisher.noch nicht gebaut wurde. The client was brave and so wasthe building.Raisedto provide parkingunderneath and hollowed out leavingonly one room. Likethisit wasin unisonwith the environment but actually alsoquite different. So different that it hasn't been built. at least not yet. Die erforderlichen Mindestabstandsflachen zu Nachbargebauden entsprechend Baurecht erzeugen haufig schlecht nutzbare, wenig qualitatsvo'le Zwischen- raurne mit sogenannt em Abstandsgruo. Die Teppichsiedlungen der 60er und 70er Jahre umgingen uber Bebauungsplane mit direkter Grenzbebauung diese Abhangigkeit. Die kompakte Organisationsfonn ergab bei geringem Landverbrauch hochwerti ge halb6ffentliche Erschlier3ungsbereiche und gut geschnittene privat e Hofgarte n. Hier wollten wir anknupfen. Developments with carpet coverage, which emerged in the 60's and 70's,avoided this conflict by planning patio houses set on the boundaries.These dense and compact estateswith low levels of land consumption offer high-quality semi-privat e access areas and fair sized atrium gardens. The client, th e owner o f a pinery shop for upmark et finishes, is in actual fact a planner himself It was ou r job to sort thro ugh his sketches and designs and give them form. Fro m inside and outside the building appears to tally white, despite being made o f wood and nothing but wood. A ccurate down t o the very last mill imetre, as one wou ld expect of a jo iner. Acrylic-bou nd mineral materials were used instead of sheet meta l and aluminium flashings.The house is a show house for a new line of innovative pre fab hom es. W ieder soUte im Garten eines Landhauses ein Neubau ent stehen. Ein Haus fUr zwei Menschen, mit zwei gro 13en Einschnitt en belichtet und dem Aut o unter dem Haus. O nce again, w e were com missioned to plan a new hom e in th e gard en o f a count r y estate. A hou se for two people w ith daylight ent ering t hrough two large incision -like ope nings and th e car parked below the hou se.

So hatt e man einen guten Bezug zum oberen. sUdJichen Garten und einen werten Blick in die W en.eder westl ichen Flur:W1r haben den Typus reinterpretiert. wenig angepasst In the 6Oies. a property developer covered a gentle north-facing slope on th e outskirt s of a small Upper Bavarian co rrmcnity with identi cal houses.The dvvellings are set into the hillside. two-storied with living areas on the upper floors. The result is good accessibility to t he upper; sout h-facing gardens and wonderfu l views to the western planes. We have reinterp reted thi s type of living; not a lot resemb les t he orig inal. Ein erst er Entwurf stand bereit s,da anderten sich Bauplatz und See.Ail e BemOhungen,den quadrat ischen Flachbau in die neue Situatio n zu imp lantieren , funk- tionierten nicht recht. Das neue Gru ndstOck verlangte nach einem lancschaftlkheren Konzept. A first design had been completed, then the plot changed. including th e lake.All efforts to implant th e square flat roo fed building into th e new sit uatio n were in vain.The new plot required a landscaped concept.

In verlangerung der ..Grol3enStral3e"in NOrnberg. historischer Aufmarschachse des Reichspart eitagsgelandes, sollte ein Hotel mit maximalem Blickbezug zur historischen Attstadt entstehen. Raumlich versetzt zur Strassenachse Oberragt der Hotelturm den Larchenwald. Er windet sich ein wenig. A hotel with a good view of the old town is to be developed at the end of the "GroOen StraJ3e", the historical Parade Road of the Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg. Slightly off axis,the hotel t ower reacheswell abovethe larchforest,tw isting as it rises.
