They further hold the potential for the discovery of new species and offer the opportunity to gain insight into evolutionary processes. Students acquire basic knowledge of collection-based research ap- proaches. Important biological research collections in Berlin will be visited. Examples will encompass botani- cal and zoological collections and important specimens. In addition to research questions, also aspects of col- lection and data management will be introduced. Students will also be acquainted with potentially problemat- ic historic aspects of the establishment of collections in the past to enable a critical reflection.
