As well as the videos the project-team also produced a range of teaching materials for primary
schools. The handbook 'Video and Communication' first offers ideas of how practical and reflec-
tive media projects can be introduced into primary teaching. These ideas were taken further in
the publication 'Democracy, Multimedia Literacy and Classroom Practice,' which was published
at the end of the project. In addition an extensive project website features a description, docu-
mentation and evaluation of each of the five tasks.
What can I find on the DVD?
The DVD 'News on Europe' contains the five television programmes from the project, which are
entitled, School News, Friendship, Hello, Environment and Conflicts. All five programmes are
about ten minutes duration and include contributions from each participating school (see the
summary on page 5) and come with subtitles in English, German and Spanish.
Additional video material includes the official broadcast trailer, a short video excerpt from the
final Liveshow in Berlin and footage related to the edit-workshop 'Park.' This workshop was used
to introduce the children to editing and is described in more detail in 'Democracy, Multimedia
Literacy and Classroom Practice.' The DVD-ROM section of the DVD includes all the above
mentioned teaching materials from the project website: all task descriptions, still images from the
participating children and pdf files of the two publications. The CD-ROM (primarily for computers
without a DVD drive) contains the same material as the DVD-ROM section as well as short video
excerpts from each of the five programmes.

Die Videoproduktion war ein spannendes Unternehmen für die Kinder. Unser Wunsch war aber, dass
das Engagement der Kinder über die eigentliche Produktion hinausging. Wir wollten die Kinder mo-

El DVD 'Las noticias de Europa' presenta los resultados del proyecto Sócrates de la UE. 'Las
