THE PERSECUTION AND MURDER OF
THE EUROPEAN JEWS BY NAZI GERMANY,
1933–1945
Series edited on behalf of the German Federal Archives, the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin,
and the Chair for Modern History at the Albert Ludwig University Freiburg. In cooperation with Yad Vashem

This source edition on the persecution and murder of the European Jews by Nazi Germany presents in a total of
16 volumes a thematically comprehensive selection of documents on the Holocaust. The work illustrates the contem-
porary contexts, dynamics, and intermediate stages of the political and social process that led to this unprecedented
mass crime. It can be used as an academic aid or be read as a written monument to the murdered Jews of Europe:
by teachers, researchers, students, and all those who are interested in addressing the Holocaust.
The edition comprises authentic testimony by persecutors, victims, and onlookers. These testimonies are furnished
with academic annotations and the vast majority of them are published here for the first time in English.

The images that adorn our catalog covers are the product of a design competition that is carried out
each year by De Gruyter in cooperation with Lette Verein Berlin, a vocational training association.
Participants in the competition were asked to design a series of images which visually reflect the spirit
of each subject area while also remaining thematically linked. We would like to thank the winner Marta
Moreno Crespo for her winning entry. Her images feature prominent figures from various academic
fields. The pixelated design invokes the digital transformation while also linking the past with the future.

This volume offers a thorough introduction to Jewish world literatures in Spanish and Portuguese, which not only
addresses the coexistence of cultures, but also the functions of a literary and linguistic space of negotiation in this
context. From the Middle Ages to present day, the compendium explores the main Jewish chapters within Spanish- and
Portuguese-language world literature, whether from Europe, Latin America, or other parts of the world. No compre-
hensive survey of this area has been undertaken so far. Yet only a broad focus of this kind can show how diasporic
Jewish literatures have been (and are)—while closely tied to their own traditions—deeply intertwined with local and
global literary developments; and how the aesthetic praxis they introduced played a decisive, formative role in the
history of literature. With this epistemic claim, the volume aims at steering clear of isolationist approaches to Jewish
literatures.

New Series

THE VIDAL SASSOON STUDIES IN ANTISEMITISM, RACISM, AND PREJUDICE
Ed. by Manuela Consonni
The series offers a high-level platform within academia for understanding the historical and contemporary contexts of antisemitism and racism.
The Vidal Sassoon Studies in Antisemitism, Racism, and Prejudice reach beyond intellectual traditions and disciplinary boundaries to examine
the singularities of anti-Jewish prejudice with relation and in the context of other forms of discrimination. The series features both established
and emerging scholarly voices making important and lasting contributions to the understanding of the historical, sociological and cultural dy-
namics of difference and prejudice.
