personalis Botties is the name of the
shoes
h es that are just as unique as the people who make them. What
is so special about Botties is the fact that they are manufactured by
those who want to wear them or gift them to someone special. Our
young company, mabottie GmbH, has launched and established
this DIY idea successfully on the market: Making your own shoes.
The basis of “Botties” – as our DIY shoes are called – are the com-
fortable Botties soles that are suitable for indoor as well as outdoor

use. Two lookbooks with simple patterns and instructions, and
many creative and inspiring ideas make it easy for those who are
interested to manufacture their own, individual shoe by croche-
ting, knitting, sewing, or felting the upper part.
Through social media, we stay in close contact with the handicraft
community. Every day brings new inspiring shoe creations that we
proudly admire. We give tips, arrange competitions and coopera-

Basis der „Botties“, wie sich unsere DIY-Schuhe nennen, sind die bequemen Botties-
Sohlen, die sich sowohl für drinnen als auch für draußen eignen. Bücher oder Down-
loads mit einfachen Anleitungen und viel kreative Inspiration machen es Interes-
sierten leicht, sich ganz individuelle Schuhe selbst herzustellen, indem sie sich den
Oberschuh häkeln, stricken, nähen oder filzen.
Über die sozialen Medien bleiben wir mit der Handarbeits-Community im engen
Austausch. Stolz bewundern wir täglich neue inspirierende Schuh-Kreationen, geben
Tipps, veranstalten Gewinnspiele und Kooperationen. Vor allen Dingen aber errei-
chen uns die Bedürfnisse und Wünsche unserer Zielgruppe, auf die wir mit weiteren
Entwicklungen und innovativen Lösungen eingehen wollen.

What is needed for
self-made shoes?
WA S W I R D F Ü R Unabhängig von der Handarbeitstechnik benötigt
man zunächst die Sohlen-Basis: unsere Botties-Sohlen
und – in den meisten Fällen – eine Einlegesohle. Die
Produkte sind separat erhältlich, damit man zwischen
SELBSTGEMACHTE den verschiedenen Varianten auswählen kann.
Æ S. 7-9
Für den Oberschuh benötigt man entweder Garn
SCHUHE oder Stoff. In unseren Anleitungen geben wir kon-
krete Empfehlungen. Faustregel bei Garn: stabile,
reißfeste Garne verwenden, auf einen niedrigen
Baumwollanteil achten. Faustregel bei Stoff: dünne
BENÖTIGT? Stoffe durch ein Bügelvlies verstärken, Elastizität von
Außenstoffen durch ein nicht-elastisches Futter aus-

Für die Verbindung von Sohle und Oberschuh – un-
abhängig von der Handarbeitstechnik – empfehlen
wir unser robustes „Nullrunden“-Garn. Ein gewachs-
tes Polyestergarn, das besonders langlebig ist.

Die Arbeitsutensilien sind abhängig von der Hand-
arbeitstechnik. Es kommen hauptsächlich „haushalts-
übliche“ Werkzeuge zum Einsatz: Häkel- Strick- und
Nähnadeln, Nähmaschine, Stoffclipse, Schere …
Übrigens: für das Rundum-Sorglos-Paket sorgen wir
mit unseren Botties-Kits: hier ist schon alles enthalten,
um direkt loszulegen! Æ S. 16-19
Regardless of the handwork technique, you first need
the sole base: our Botties soles and - in most cases - an
insole. The products are sold separately so that there
is a choice between the different variants.Æ S. 7-9
For the upper shoe you need either yarn or fabric. In
our instructions we give you specific recommendati-
ons. Rule of thumb for yarn: use strong, tear-resistant
yarns, make sure they have a low cotton content. Rule
of thumb for fabric: reinforce thin fabrics with iron-on
fleece, compensate elasticity of outer fabrics with a

For the connection of sole and upper shoe we recom-
mend our robust „Round 0 yarn”. A waxed polyester
yarn that is particularly durable. Æ S. 12
The working utensils are now again dependent on the
handicraft technique. Basically, only „household“ tools
are used: crochet, knitting and sewing needles, sewing
machine, fabric clips, scissors ...

Which sole size
is best? Unsere Botties Sohle gibt es in 13 verschiedenen
Größen. Unser Maßsystem orientiert sich an den gän-
gigen Schuhgrößen, weshalb wir auch entsprechende
Empfehlungen aussprechen, die für die Standard-Tra-
geweise in der Regel sehr zuverlässig sind (z. B. XS =
38 (EU) oder XL = 45/46 (EU)). Bei Unsicherheit kann
hier das Botties-Fußlineal auf einem DIN A 4 Papier
ausgedruckt und ein Schnelltest gemacht werden.

Our Botties sole is available in 13 different sizes. Our
measuring system is based on the common shoe sizes,
which is why we also give corresponding recommen-
dations that are usually very reliable for the standard
way of wearing (e.g. XS = 38 (EU) or XL = 45/46
(EU)). In case of uncertainty, the Botties Foot Gauge
can be printed out here on a DIN A 4 paper for a quick
test.

Why is there no
left and right foot? Der Clou der Botties Sohlen sind ihre abgerundeten
Kanten. Diese ermöglichen dem Schuh eine große
Flexibilität. Sobald die Sohle mit dem Oberschuh ver-
bunden ist und man die ersten Schritte darin macht,
beginnt sich die Sohle an die Füße anzupassen. Mit
der Zeit wird die Links-/Rechts-Ausprägung immer
deutlicher. Die neutrale Fußform hat keine nachteilige
Auswirkung auf den Tragekomfort.
Die Botties Sohle verfügt auch über eine direkt mit
ihr verbundene stabilisierende Fersenlasche. Diese
gestalterischen und funktionalen Merkmale machen
unsere Botties Sohlen so besonders und einzigartig!
Unsere Botties Sohlen sind daher mit einem weltwei-
ten Designpatent geschützt.
The highlight of the Botties soles are their rounded
edges. These allow the shoe to be very flexible. As
soon as you connect the sole to the upper shoe and
take your first steps, the sole begins to adapt to your
feet. As time goes by, the left/right distinction beco-
mes more pronounced. The neutral foot shape has no
negative impact on comfort.
The Botties sole also has a stabilising heel tab directly
connected to it. These design and functional features
make our Botties soles so special and unique! Our
Botties soles are therefore protected with a worldwi-
de design patent.
