The Honduran member of parliament, Gloria Guadalupe Oqueli, has been elected, in the framework
of the parliamentary meetings that are being held this week in Panama City at the headquarters of
the Latin American Parliament, unanimously new President of the Women's Forum of the Euro-Latin
American Parliamentary Assembly Eurolat.

The aforementioned Parliamentary Assembly is composed of one hundred and fifty European and
Latin American parliamentarians who regularly meet in both regions. It is one of the main institutions
of the bi-regional association of the European Union with Latin America and was constituted in 2006
at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels (Belgium). Among its functions is to issue
messages, statements and recommendations to European institutions (European Commission,
European Parliament, etc.) and Latin American as well as to the Summit of Heads of State and
Government of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) and the European Union.

Member of parliament Gloria Guadalupe Oquelí has a wide and recognized trajectory in the
international scene. Among other responsibilities she held the Presidency of the Central American
Parliament (2010-2011) and the Presidency of the aforementioned Euro-Latin American
Parliamentary Assembly (2011-2013). In her mandate she payed special attention to relations with
the European Union as well as with the African Union and the CPLP countries (Community of
Portuguese Language Countries) in a policy aimed at strengthening the external projection of Latin
America. Her work has also been very prominent in various United Nations agencies, in particular
UNISDR, Office for the Prevention of Disaster Risk of the United Nations, where she has actively
participated in the World Summits in Geneva (2013) and Senday (2015) promoting various initiatives
for the global prevention of disaster risk. In line with her active presence on the international scene,
she met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio
Guterres, last July of 2017 in New York at the United Nations headquarters.

The election of member of parliament Gloria Oquelí as President of the Women's Forum of the Euro-
Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, which includes nearly one hundred European and Latin
American parliamentarians, follows her intense work in the field of the defense of human rights. of
women in various international forums in the last decade. In this sense, it is particularly important to

attend the next meeting of the "World Forum of Women Leaders" to be held in June 2018 at the
Lithuanian Parliament building, in the city of Vilnius, with the assistance of First Ministers, members
of parliament and leaders of all the countries of the world.

Die honduranische Abgeordnete Gloria Guadalupe Oquelí wurde im Rahmen der parlamentarischen
Treffen, die diese Woche in Panama-Stadt am Sitz des lateinamerikanischen Parlaments stattfinden,
einstimmig zur neuen Präsidentin des Frauenforums der Parlamentarischen Versammlung Europa-
Lateinamerika EuroLat gewählt.

EuroLat besteht aus einhundertfünfzig europäischen und lateinamerikanischen Parlamentariern, die
sich regelmäßig in beiden Regionen treffen. Es ist eine der wichtigsten Institutionen der biregionalen
Vereinigung der Europäischen Union mit Lateinamerika und wurde 2006 am Sitz des Europäischen
Parlaments in Brüssel konstituiert. Zu seinen Aufgaben gehört es, Botschaften, Erklärungen und
Empfehlungen an die europäischen Institutionen (Europäische Kommission, Europäisches Parlament
usw.) und Lateinamerika sowie an das Gipfeltreffen der Staats- und Regierungschefs der CELAC
(Gemeinschaft der lateinamerikanischen und karibischen Staaten) und der Europäischen Union zu
richten.

Die Abgeordnete Gloria Guadalupe Oquelí hat eine breit gefächerte und anerkannte Karriere in der
internationalen Szene. Unter anderem war sie Präsidentin des Zentralamerikanischen Parlaments
(2010-2011) und der Parlamentarischen Versammlung Europa-Lateinamerika (2011-2013). In ihrem
Mandat schenkte sie den Beziehungen zur Europäischen Union sowie zur Afrikanischen Union und
den CPLP-Staaten (Gemeinschaft der portugiesischsprachigen Länder) besondere Aufmerksamkeit,
um die Außenprojektion Lateinamerikas zu stärken. Ihre Arbeit war ebenfalls in verschiedenen
Organisationen der Vereinten Nationen sehr prominent, insbesondere im Büro für die Verhütung von
Katastrophenrisiken der Vereinten Nationen (UNISDR). In der UNISDR war sie aktiv an den Weltgipfeln
in Genf (2013) und Senday (2015) beteiligt, um Initiativen zur globalen Verhütung von
Katastrophenrisiken zu fördern. Entsprechend ihrer aktiven Präsenz auf der internationalen Bühne
traf sie sich im Juli 2017 in New York im Hauptquartier der Vereinten Nationen mit dem
Generalsekretär der Vereinten Nationen, dem ehemaligen portugiesischen Premierminister Antonio
Guterres.

Die Wahl der Abgeordneten Gloria Oquelí zur Präsidentin des Frauenforums der Parlamentarischen
Versammlung Europa-Lateinamerika, zu der fast hundert europäische und lateinamerikanische
Parlamentarier gehören, folgt ihrer intensiven Arbeit auf dem Gebiet der Verteidigung der
Menschenrechte von Frauen in verschiedenen internationalen Foren in den letzten zehn Jahren. In
diesem Sinne ist es besonders wichtig, an der nächsten Sitzung des "Weltforum der weiblichen
Führungskräfte" teilzunehmen, das im Juni 2018 im litauischen Parlamentsgebäude in der Stadt
Vilnius mit Unterstützung der ersten Minister, Abgeordneten und Staatsoberhäupter aller Länder der
Welt stattfinden soll.
