Beschreibung
The course aims at discussing various morphological properties of English and German from different theoretical perspectives
and to familiarise students with several morphological frameworks. Each major topic is assigned at least two frameworks.
We will discuss original articles which are fundamental for the relevant theories and which address the particular issues to be
examined. The classes will be taught in English.

There is no set textbook for the course but students may find it useful to have access to the following books:

In this class we will discuss the semantics and pragmatics of modal and conditional statements. The first half is concerned
with the semantics of modality. After laying out theoretical foundations and issues, we will discuss some empirical, especially
cross-linguistic, observations and studies. The second half is looking into the semantics of different types of conditional
statements. We will discuss their interaction with tense and aspect, as well as some issues with reasoning with conditionals.
Students who want to register for this class are required to have a background in compositional semantics in the framework of
Heim & Kratzer (1998), .e.g., have taken the Introduction to Semantics/Einführung in die Semantik. We will repeat the basics
of extensional semantics in the beginning of the class.

The class will be offered as a winter school on experimental semantic fieldwork on African languages. It will be held in hybrid
fashion:
onsite at Legon (Ghana) and on Zoom from Jan 9 to Jan 20, 2023. If you want to apply for funding to be attending on site,
please contact nadine.bade@uni-potsdam.de
for further information (deadline for applications September 30th). The planned schedule is as follows: There will be two
compulsory morning classes for everybody, which will be followed up by group work in the afternoons. We are aiming at
pooling together Legon and UP students in the individual afternoon groups.You
can sign up for two of the afternoon courses, and then specialise in the second week. In the first week, the group discussions
will introduce to the individual semantic phenomena and analytical problems to be solved. In the second week, the groups will
work hands-on on the
development of experimental designs for particular semantic issues in Ghanaian languages.The ideal outcome at the end of
week 2 would be a sketch for a semantic experiment on a Ghanaian language.

This Masters course provides an overview of current issues and controversies in second language (L2) acquisition research,
focusing on formal linguistic (rather than applied or pedagogical) approaches to the L2 acquisition of syntax. Specific
questions to be addressed include: What are the similarities and differences between child first language (L1) and adult L2

This advanced Masters course takes an in-depth look at selected current research topics in the areas of multilingual
grammatical representation and processing, focusing on studies of sentence-level phenomena in bi- or multilingual adults.
The course will also examine methodological issues and consider the advantages and disadvantages of different experimental
research methods and designs. Specific topics to be covered include: the relationship between language processing and
acquisition, individual differences in multilingual representation and processing, prediction in non-native language processing,
heritage language speakers, multilingual production and codeswitching, and bilingualism and aging.
Voraussetzung
This course builds on my courses "Second Language Acquisition" (BM4) and "Second Language Processing" (VM4/I),
and prior completion of these or equivalent courses is strongly recommended. The course is not suitable for first-semester
students or for students without any background in language acquisition and processing.

Beschreibung
The course aims at discussing various morphological properties of English and German from different theoretical perspectives
and to familiarise students with several morphological frameworks. Each major topic is assigned at least two frameworks.
We will discuss original articles which are fundamental for the relevant theories and which address the particular issues to be
examined. The classes will be taught in English.

In this class we will discuss the semantics and pragmatics of modal and conditional statements. The first half is concerned
with the semantics of modality. After laying out theoretical foundations and issues, we will discuss some empirical, especially
cross-linguistic, observations and studies. The second half is looking into the semantics of different types of conditional
statements. We will discuss their interaction with tense and aspect, as well as some issues with reasoning with conditionals.
Students who want to register for this class are required to have a background in compositional semantics in the framework of
Heim & Kratzer (1998), .e.g., have taken the Introduction to Semantics/Einführung in die Semantik. We will repeat the basics
of extensional semantics in the beginning of the class.

Die folgenden Begriffserklärungen zu Prüfungsleistung, Prüfungsnebenleistung und Studienleistung gelten im Bezug auf
Lehrveranstaltungen für alle Ordnungen, die seit dem WiSe 2013/14 in Kranft getreten sind.
Prüfungsleistung Prüfungsleistungen sind benotete Leistungen innerhalb eines Moduls. Aus der Benotung
der Prüfungsleistung(en) bildet sich die Modulnote, die in die Gesamtnote des Studiengangs
eingeht. Handelt es sich um eine unbenotete Prüfungsleistung, so muss dieses ausdrücklich
(„unbenotet“) in der Modulbeschreibung der fachspezifischen Ordnung geregelt sein. Weitere
Informationen, auch zu den Anmeldemöglichkeiten von Prüfungsleistungen, finden Sie unter
anderem in der Kommentierung der BaMa-O
Prüfungsnebenleistung Prüfungsnebenleistungen sind für den Abschluss eines Moduls relevante Leistungen, die
– soweit sie vorgesehen sind – in der Modulbeschreibung der fachspezifischen Ordnung
beschrieben sind. Prüfungsnebenleistungen sind immer unbenotet und werden lediglich
mit "bestanden" bzw. "nicht bestanden" bewertet. Die Modulbeschreibung regelt, ob
die Prüfungsnebenleistung eine Teilnahmevoraussetzung für eine Modulprüfung oder
eine Abschlussvoraussetzung für ein ganzes Modul ist. Als Teilnahmevoraussetzung
für eine Modulprüfung muss die Prüfungsnebenleistung erfolgreich vor der Anmeldung
bzw. Teilnahme an der Modulprüfung erbracht worden sein. Auch für Erbringung einer
Prüfungsnebenleistungen wird eine Anmeldung vorausgesetzt. Diese fällt immer mit
der Belegung der Lehrveranstaltung zusammen, da Prüfungsnebenleistung im Rahmen
einer Lehrveranstaltungen absolviert werden. Sieht also Ihre fachspezifische Ordnung
Prüfungsnebenleistungen bei Lehrveranstaltungen vor, sind diese Lehrveranstaltungen
zwingend zu belegen, um die Prüfungsnebenleistung absolvieren zu können.
Studienleistung Als Studienleistung werden Leistungen bezeichnet, die weder Prüfungsleistungen noch
Prüfungsnebenleistungen sind.
