Liebe Mitglieder,
Waehrend wir uns weiter in den Fruehling bewegen koennen wir sehr zu-
frieden sein, dass wir alle Moeglichkeiten in der letzten Wintersaison ausge-
nutzt haben. Unsere woechentlichen Veranstaltungen waren sehr gut besucht
und haben unseren Besuchern unser Clubmotto verdeutlicht.Ein Dank an den
Edelweiss Chor und die Hafenkapelle, die das jaehrliche Fruehlingskonzert zu
einem grossen Erfolg gemacht haben. In diesem Monat veranstalten wir wied-
er unsere Internationalen Abend mit der Flaggenparade und denken an die
Menschen in der Ukraine in diesen schweren Zeiten des Krieges.
Meine Familie und ich wuenschen Allen ein sicheres und Frohes Osterfest.

Meanwhile all the roofs are repaired and one wall at the entrance booth to the Wednesday from

painters are continuing cleaning the walls of
the buildings and painting them and rebuilding
and installing the new decoration. Two of
them, who just help where they are needed,
Ulla and Dietrich Fecht, repainted the walls at
the entrance gate to the Bavarian Garden. It
looks beautiful again. Thanks everybody, even
not mentioned by name, for the continuous
work for our club.

Eine Seitenwand des
Eingangskontrollhaeuschens zum
Parkplatz wurde ausgetauscht. Sie fing
stark an zu verrotten und eindringende
Feuchtigkeit haette der ganzen
Konstrucktion geschadet. Die Elektriker
unter Leitung von Dietrich Lohff haben
inzwischen die Kabel fuer die
Beleuchtung des hinteren Parkplatzes
verlegt. Jetzt muessen noch LED
Leuchten installiert werden, sowie die endgueltige Verkabelung vorgenommen werden. Die Maler sind
weiter dabei Gebaeudefassaden zu reinigen, neu zu streichen und die neu angefertigte
Wanddekoration herzustellen und zu befestigen. Zwei von ihnen, die aber ueberall arbeiten, wo sie
gebraucht werden, Ulla und Dietrich Fecht, haben die Mauern und Beschriftung am Eingang zum
“Bavarian Garden” wieder neu gemalt. Schoen sieht es aus. Ein herzliches Dank an alle, die sich
immer wieder fuer unseren Club einsetzen, auch wenn nicht jeder namentlich genannt
werden kann.

HAFENKAPELLE
The 2021/2022 season is over for the Hafenkapelle. Last Friday we had
our last performance of the season here at the GASC together with the
Edelweiss Choir for the Spring Concert. The band had a lot of fun playing
at a well-attended dance event. We would also like to say thank you for all
the compliments we received during and after the event. That means a lot
to us musicians. We have decided to continue our rehearsal work until the
end of April in order to prepare for the coming Oktoberfest season. The
focus of the rehearsals will be on our performance, including current party
and Oktoberfest hits. We wish everyone who will be leaving Florida to the
north in the summer months a nice, relaxing summer and look forward to
seeing you all again for the events in the fall.
Die Saison 2021/2022 ist für die Hafenkapelle beendet. Am letzten Freitag
hatten wir unseren letzten Auftritt der Saison hier bei Euch im GASC
zusammen mit dem Edelweiss Chor zum Frühlingsfest. Es hat der Band
sehr viel Spaß gemacht bei einer gut besuchten Veranstaltung zum Tanz
aufzuspielen. Wir möchten uns auch für alle Komplimente bedanken
welche wir während und nach der Veranstaltung erhalten haben. Das
bedeutet uns Musikern sehr viel. Wir haben uns entschieden unsere
Probenarbeit noch bis Ende April fortzusetzen um uns schon jetzt auf die
kommende Oktoberfestsaison vorzubereiten. Der Schwerpunkt der Proben
wird, unter der Einbeziehung aktueller Party- und Oktoberfest Hits, auf
unserer Performance liegen. Wir wünschen schon jetzt allen, welche
Florida in den Sommermonaten nach Norden verlassen
werden, einen schönen erholsamen Sommer und freuen uns
Euch alle zu den Veranstaltungen im Herbst wiederzusehen.

Kulturgesellschaft - Am Dienstag, den 19.4. um 19 Uhr zeigen wir
diesen Film. Deutsch mit Untertiteln. Kommt gerne vorbei.
Kaffee, Donuts, und die Bar wird bedient. Mit englischen
Untertiteln, also super um Deutsch zu lernen oder aufzufrischen.
Ballon - Die Familien Strelzyk und Wetzel entwickeln einen Plan,
um aus der DDR zu flüchten. Im September 1979 treten die zwei
Paare mit vier Kindern ihren Flug mit dem Heißluftballon an. Ihr
Fluchtversuch scheitert jedoch, der Ballon stürzt knapp vor der
Grenze ab. Ehrgeizig beginnen sie, an einem neuen Flugobjekt
zu arbeiten. Allerdings kommt ihnen die Stasi auf die Spur und
beginnt mit den Ermittlungen. Es wird ein Wettlauf gegen die
Zeit.
Von der Deutschen Film- und Medienbewertung wurde Ballon mit
dem Prädikat Besonders wertvoll versehen. In der Begründung
heißt es: „Das Katz- und Maus-Spiel zwischen der Familie
Strelzyk und dem Ermittler Seidel inszeniert Herbig einem Krimi gleich und gerade gegen
Ende mit atemloser Spannung. Die Musik unterstützt die Dramatik der Situation perfekt, das
Setting, die Ausstattung und die Kostüme lassen keinen Zweifel am hohen
Rechercheaufwand und der Liebe zum Detail. Das System der DDR selbst wird gezeigt mit
all seinen Repressalien, doch findet Herbig auch feine nuancierte Zwischentöne für die
Haltung der Bürger zu ihrer Heimat.
Rund 2,8 Millionen Menschen sind nach der Gründung der DDR 1949 bis zum Mauerbau
1961 in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland geflohen. Nach dem Bau der Mauer war die
sogenannte Republikflucht nur noch unter großen Gefahren möglich. Zigtausende nahmen
das Risiko bis zum Mauerfall 1989 dennoch auf sich. Mehrere Hundert ließen dabei ihr
Leben.
Michael Bully Herbig's thriller 'Balloon' recounts the true-life story of how two East German
families escaped to the West using a hot-air balloon.
During the 40 years of the GDR regime about three million of the country’s 17 million
citizens left, around 75,000 each year; most of them without permission. Hundreds were
killed, but many others managed to make it to the West using ingenious and spectacular
methods.
With English subtitles, again perfect for those members who want to be
there but are not yet quite so proficient in the German language. So come
with friends and family.
Yes, and of course, the bar will be open and we will serve pastries and
coffee. We are looking forward to it! Come an join us on April 19th at 7

This month includes five Bundesliga matches on April 2nd vs Freiburg, the 9th vs Augsburg,
the 17th vs Armenia, Der Klassiker on the 23rd vs Dortmund then April 30th vs Mainz.
April also features the quarter-final round of the UEFA Champions League vs Villarreal with
the first leg on Wednesday the 6th away in Spain followed by the home leg on Tuesday the
12th.

GAME WATCHING PARTIES
Come join us and watch available televised games in the Edelweiss Hall at the German Ameri-
can Social Club in Cape Coral. The doors opens 30 minutes prior to kickoff . Food and drinks
available for purchase.
Any groups getting together should observe social distancing and wear masks when venturing
offsides. As always if you are not feeling well or have had a recent exposure to anyone COVID
positive just stay home and get tested ASAP. Failure to comply is a red card offense.
