the Hungarian rubber industry
On the occasion of the Hungarian Rubber Association’s annual
conference, which this year took place October 11-12 2018,

together on flame retardants. The focus of the talk was on in-
tumescent systems and their mode of action in fire scenarios,
the background to which being the new fire standard DIN EN
45545 for railway vehicles. Due to the much stricter fire protec-
tion requirements the new DIN EN 45545 standard contains,
current specifications for railway applications will no longer be
sufficient in the future. New technical solutions must, there-
fore, be found to reduce the risk of heat, smoke and toxic gases
in railway vehicles in the event of a fire.
