an historic airport, much passion for mo-
bility, and a legendary motor sport col-
lection – these are the ingredients from
which a new crowd-puller is created:
Motorworld Köln-Rheinland at the Nico-
laus-August-Otto Park on the grounds of
Butzweilerhof. As a special highlight, it
will house the Michael Schumacher Pri-
vate Collection, and will be much more
than a world of motoring experiences.
The public opening, which – in the truest
sense of the word – attracted hundreds of
horsepower onto the road, took place on
the weekend of June 15-17.

Drei Tage lang konnten sich geladene Gäste und Besucher ein

historischen Flughafens Butzweilerhof machen. In der größten
Veranstaltungshalle des neuen Ensembles - dem 4-Takt-Hangar
- fand am Freitag, 15. Juni, der Auftakt des Eröffnungswochen-
endes statt. In dessen Rahmen präsentierte Andreas Dünkel,
Vorsitzender der Motorworld Group, den rund 1.200 geladenen
Gästen den neuen Standort. Sabine Kehm, Managerin der Familie
Schumacher, erläuterte wiederum die Michael Schumacher Pri-
vate Collection, die als Dauerausstellung in der Motorworld eine
Heimat gefunden hat. Am Samstag und Sonntag folgte dann die
Publikumseröffnung.

grounds of the historic Butzweilerhof airport. The begin-
ning of the opening weekend took place on the Friday in the
new ensemble‘s largest event hall - the „4-Takt-Hangar“.
During the evening, Andreas Dünkel, CEO of the Motorworld
Group, presented the new location to the around 1,200 invi-
ted guests. In turn, Sabine Kehm, manager of the Schuma-
cher family, spoke about the Michael Schumacher Private
Collection, which has found a new home at Motorworld as
a permanent exhibition. On the Saturday and Sunday the

Am 16. September stehen wahre Helden der Rennstrecke im Mittelpunkt: Zum
zweiten Mal findet der Concorso Competizione Sportivo statt. Diesmal vor der
wunderbaren Kulisse des Klosters Fürstenfeld bei München. Während der Mo-
torworld Oldtimertage Fürstenfeld (16. & 17. Sept) stellen sich auf den Wie-
sen vor dem Kloster rund 20 automobile Legenden dem Wettbewerb Concorso
Sportivo, einem Concours, der sich ausschließlich Fahrzeugen mit echter Renn-
historie widmet.
Der Concorso Sportivo ist eine Zeitreise durch die Historie des mobilen
Rennsports: Beginnend in den 1920er und 30er Jahren, in denen mutige Automo-
bilisten die gezeigten Raritäten über die Ziellinie steuerten, bis hin in die wilden
60er und 70er Jahre, in denen der Motorsport zum Symbol des Wirtschaftswun-
ders wurde – von Formel 1 Siegerfahrzeugen bis hin zu Ausdauersprinter aus Le
Mans.
Eingeladen sind alle Besitzer von Rennboliden aus dem Rennsport, wie Rallye-
fahrzeuge, Tourenwagen, Formelfahrzeuge, Vorkriegsrennwagen oder auch Ber-
grennfahrzeuge. Bewertet wird in unterschiedlichen Klassen.
Eine achtköpfige Fach-Jury wird die teilnehmenden Fahrzeuge bewerten. Natür-
lich dürfen auch die Besucher der Motorworld Oldtimertage ihren ganz persönli-
chen Favoriten aus dem Teilnehmerfeld wählen.

second Concorso Competizione Sportivo. This time it will be taking place in the
wonderful surroundings of Fürstenfeld Monastery near Munich. During the Mo-
torworld Oldtimertage Fürstenfeld (on September 16 & 17), some 20 automoti-
ve legends will be competing on the meadows in front of the monastery in the
Concorso Sportivo competition, which is dedicated exclusively to vehicles with
a true racing history.
The Concorso Sportivo is like travelling back in time through the history of motor
racing, beginning in the 1920s and 1930s, when courageous drivers crossed the
finishing line in the rare cars on display, and on to the wild Sixties and Seventies,
when motor sport became a symbol of the economic miracle – from Formula 1
winners to endurance sprinters from Le Mans.
Owners of racing cars from all flavours of motor sport, such as rally cars, touring
cars, Formula racing cars, pre-war racers, or even hill-climbers, are invited to
participate. Judging takes place in different classes.
A jury of eight experts will be assessing the participating vehicles. Visitors to the
Motorworld Oldtimertage can naturally also choose their own personal favouri-
tes from the field of competitors.

daunting and treacherous in Europe, and the track
is notorious for its changeable weather. Chassis

wearing #8, was shared by Hans Herrmann and
Rolf Stommelen. The weather played a huge role
in this contest, which saw the 4.7-liter Ford GT40
(Sports 5000) of the brilliant young Belgian Jacky
Ickx and England’s similarly talented Brian Red-
man utterly dominate. In pouring rain, Ickx utilized
his car’s superior top speed to seize the lead and
simply run away with the contest, putting half a
minute on the rest of the field on just the opening
lap. Elford, who had qualified 4th, took the first
stint in the #6 Porsche, pitting on lap 32 of the 71-
lap contest, and turned the car over to Neerpasch.

progressed rapidly, and the new engine made its first
appearance during Le Mans testing in April 1968. The
earliest versions of the all-alloy, dry-sumped, twin-ig-
nition, four-cam, eight-cylinder boxer engine were sub-
ject to severe vibration, an issue resolved by changing
the firing order and using the 66-mm crankshaft of the
907. With Bosch Kugelfischer indirect fuel-injection
and 10.4:1 compression, the engine produced upwards
of 350 hp at 8,500 rpm and 232 foot-pounds of torque
at 6,600. Scaling barely more than 1,300 lbs., the 908
