70 JAHRE PORSCHE
Im Sommer 1944 hatte Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, auf Anraten der deutschen Heeresleitung, aus Sicherheitsgründen und
mit der Absicht, die in Stuttgart ansässige Konstruktion zu verlegen, Gelände und Gebäude eines Sägewerks in der Kärntner
Gemeinde Gmünd gekauft.
1945 übernahm Sohn Ferry die Leitung der in Gmünd gegründeten „Porsche Konstruktionen GmbH“. Ferry Porsche zeichnete
und konstruierte das erste Fahrzeug mit dem berühmten Familiennamen. Knapp ein Jahr nach Konstruktionsbeginn startete
dieses unter dem Namen „Porsche 356 Roadster“ am 8. Juni 1948 zur ersten Probefahrt.
Nur ein Monat darauf trat Ing. Herbert Kaes, einer der beiden Neffen Dr. Porsches, mit dem ersten Porsche 356 beim Stadtren-
nen in Innsbruck an und holte den Sieg. Der Mythos „Porsche“ war geboren.
Bis Ende 1950 stellten annähernd 300 Mitarbeiter 44 Coupés und acht Cabrios her. Im März 1951 übersiedelte die in Österreich
gegründete „Porsche Konstruktionen GmbH“ zurück nach Stuttgart.

In the summer of 1944, on the advice of the German High Command, Professor Dr. Ferdinand Porsche purchased the grounds
and buildings of a sawmill in the Carinthian town of Gmünd, since there were plans to move the manufacturing plant based in
Stuttgart to Austria for safety purposes.
In 1945 his son, Ferry, became chief executive of the company known as ‘Porsche Konstruktionen GmbH’ founded in Gmünd.
Ferry Porsche drafted and constructed the first vehicle to bear the famous family name. On the 8th June 1948, approximately
one year after construction had begun, the first car was sent out for trials under the name ‘Porsche 356 Roadster’. Just one
month later, Herbert Kaes (Ing.) one of Dr. Porsche’s two nephews, entered the first Porsche 356 in the city race in Innsbruck –
and won! The Porsche legend was born.
By the end of 1950, around three hundred employees had manufactured 44 coupés and eight cabriolets. In March 1951, the
Austrian-established ‘Porsche Konstruktionen GmbH’ relocated to Stuttgart.

A permanent fixture on the
European classic car firmament
A glance at the Classic Expo Salzburg dashboard shows its
now in its 14th year. That’s 14 years of experience that have
made the show the popular international classic car gathe-
ring it is today.
Last year’s Classic Expo attracted around 26,000 classic au-
tomobile fans, filling the entire quota of allocated expo space
and drawing more than 300 exhibitors from a wide variety of
segments.
This international classic car fair benefits from Salzburg’s ability to interest a catchment that spreads beyond the Austrian border, in
turn providing big-name international dealers and clubs with an opportunity to address a wider visitor group.

110 JAHRE CARLO ABARTH
Am 15. November 1908 in Wien geboren, wird Karl Abarths Sternzeichen, der Skorpion, in der Automobilwelt
berühmt werden.
Karls Lehrausbildung zum Motorradmechaniker und die anfängliche Teilnahme an Radrennen bildeten den Grund-
stein für eine herausragende Karriere im Motorsport. 1928 gründete er seine eigene Mannschaft im Motorradsport und
wechselte schließlich zu Seitenwagen-Rennen. Sein größter Triumph dieser Zeit: Der Sieg gegen den „Orient Express“ mit
einer Eigenkonstruktion.
1949 folgte die Gründung der Firma „Abarth“ in Bologna. Kurz darauf übernahm er von dem Industriellen Piero Dusio dessen
Firma „Cisitalia“ und entwickelte daraus die „Squadra Carlo Abarth“. Neben der Renngemeinschaft, die zahlreiche große
Fahrer hervorbrachte, und der Entwicklung von Renn- und Sportzubehör, konstruierte Abarth äußerst erfolgreich Sport- und
Rennwagen. Unzählige Rekorde und Siege gehen auf Carlo Abarth (vormals Karl) zurück.
Carlo Abarth, ein großartiger Rennfahrer, genialer Konstrukteur und hervorragender Geschäftsmann verstarb, so wie er ge-
boren wurde, am 24. Oktober 1979 im Zeichen des Skorpions, der seine Automobile noch heute ziert.

Karl Abarth was born a Scorpio on the 15th November 1908 in Vienna, and subsequently made his sign of the zodiac famous
all over the automotive world.
Karl’s apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic and his early participation in motorbike races formed the cornerstone of a
magnificent career in motor sports. In 1928 he established his own motorcycle racing team and ultimately switched to sidecar
racing. His greatest triumph in this period was the victory against the ‘Orient Express’ on a self-manufactured ride.
Later, in 1949 the company ‘Abarth’ was founded in Bologna. Soon after, he took over the Cisitalia company, previously
owned by the industrialist, Piero Dusio, and developed it into ‘Squadra Carlo Abarth’. Alongside the racing team, which
produced a number of excellent drivers, and the development of a range of racing and sports accessories, Abarth was also
extremely successful in the construction of sports and racing cars. Carlo Abarth (previously Karl) achieved countless records
and triumphs down the years.
Carlo Abarth was a marvellous racing driver, an ingenious constructor and an outstanding businessman. He died on the 24th
October 1979, under the sign under which he had been born – the scorpion – which still adorns his automobiles to this day.

     Das Messezentrum Salzburg ist über die
     Autobahn A1, Ausfahrt „Messe“, dank eines
     Verkehrsleitsystems perfekt erreichbar. Am
     Gelände ste­hen über 3.000 Parkplätze zur
     Ver­fügung. Die Obusli­nien 1 und 8 binden
     das Messezentrum direkt an das öffentliche
     Verkehrsnetz an. Flughafen, Hauptbahnhof
     und Altstadt liegen nur wenige Taximinuten
     entfernt.
     Thanks to a traffic management system, Mes-
     sezentrum Salzburg is easily reachable via the
     A1 motorway, junction „Messe“. More than
     3,000 parking spaces are available on site.
     Trolleybus lines 1 and 8 connect the exhi-
     bition centre directly to the public transport
     network. The airport, main railway station and
     old town are only minutes away by taxi.
