                                                 Etappe 1: Die Kultivierte – der urbane Start in die Swiss O
                                                 Week 2019

                                                 Sechs Gänge umfasst das sportliche Menü der Swiss O Week 2019
                                                 und jeder Gang, die Etappen, fördert kontinuierlich das
                                                 Wettkampffieber. Mit dem letzten Pieps zur Startzeit wird die OL-
                                                 Karte frei und der Blick konzentriert sich auf das Kartenbild, folgt
                                                 unverzüglich der Linie vom Start-Dreieck zum ersten Kreis und
                                                 weiter – die Spannung löst sich, die eingedruckte Bahn gibt die
                                                 Informationen her, um die Posten zu finden, der OL hat begonnen.
                                                 Sechs Bahnleger-Teams schaffen für 52 Kategorien, mit den
                                                 insgesamt erwarteten dreitausend und mehr Startenden, die
                                                 Voraussetzungen an Linien und Postenkreise, so dass jeder
                                                 Teilnehmende faire, gute Bahnen belaufen kann.

                                                 Christoph und Beatrice Aeschlimann (beide ol norska) schätzen die
                                                 spezifischen Herausforderungen des Sprint-OL und treten als
                                                 Verfechter der Sparte auf. Deshalb lag es auf der Hand, dass sie
                                                 beide den urbanen Start zur SOW 2019 im Dorf Gstaad als
                                                 Bahnleger-Team gestalten.

                                                 Kartentechnisch und touristisch interessanter Ortskern

                                                 Wer vom Simmental her mit dem Zug nach Gstaad kommt, fährt
                                                 eine letzte grosse Kurve vor dem Bahnhof und sieht grüne Wiesen,
                                                 man sieht das Dorf und die Alpen dahinter – die Destination Gstaad.
                                                 Kartenaufnehmer Beat Imhof erkennt Gstaad, das zur Gemeinde
                                                 Saanen gehört, als einen kartentechnisch und touristisch
                                                 interessanten Ortskern, der umgeben ist von einer „grob
                                                 strukturierten Ansammlung von Wohngebieten mit grossen Villen
                                                 und üppigen Hotelparks in eher coupiertem Gelände“. Das
                                                 Wettkampfzentrum wird auf dem Eisbahnareal zu stehen kommen,
                                                 wo unmittelbar vor der SOW 2019 das Beachvolleyball- sowie das
                                                 seit mehr als hundert Jahren durchgeführte Tennis-Turnier
                                                 stattfinden werden. Die Struktur des Dorfs gestattet interessante
                                                 Sprint-OL-Bahnen, mit kniffligen Passagen im Dorfkern und dank

der vorhandenen Geländekammern auch spannenden Routenwahl-
Abschnitte. In den längeren Kategorien werden auch die
anspruchsvollen Steigungen zu Buche schlagen.

Etwas einfachere Bahnen werden die hundert Schülerinnen und
Schüler aus dem Saanenland und dem Pays-d’Enhaut vorfinden, die
sich für den Schlusslauf des SOW-Schüler-Cups 2019 qualifiziert
haben, der in die erste Etappe integriert wird.
Zu den aufwändigen Aufgaben von Sprint-Bahnlegern gehört die
Kontaktaufnahme mit Eigentümern und Bewohnern, um
sicherzugehen, dass auf der Gebäude-Rückseite, auf dem Vorplatz
oder in einer Unterführung der OL-Posten gestellt werden darf. Die
Erfahrungen mit den Einheimischen sind positiv, die Resonanz ist
echtes Interesse – beispielsweise als Christoph Aeschlimann den
neuen katholischen Pfarrer an dessen erstem Arbeitstag in Gstaad
aus dem Haus läutete.
Bis am Sonntag 4. August 2019 um neun Uhr der erste Teilnehmer
zur SOW startet und die Sprint-Bahn aufnimmt, werden Beatrice
und Christoph Aeschlimann drei bis vier Wochen aufgewendet
haben, einen grossen Teil davon in Gstaad unterwegs gewesen sein.
Sie freuen sich bis dahin auf weitere schöne Begegnungen mit den
Menschen in Gstaad und danach auf die Feedbacks der Läuferinnen
und Läufer.

Die Anmeldungen treffen ein

Seit dem 01.08.2018 ist die Ausschreibung mit allen Details für die
SOW 2019 Gstaad auf der Webseite www.swiss-o-week.ch publiziert
und das Anmeldeportal GO2OL.ch ist eröffnet. Bereits sind
Anmeldungen aus zehn verschiedenen Ländern eingetroffen. Die
allererste Anmeldung lieferte Bent Galborgen, NOR.

Nicht vergessen: Wer sich auf dem Anmeldeportal bis zum 31.
Januar 2019 für die SOW 2019 anmeldet, profitiert vom Rabatt für
Frühbuchungen! Der definitive Anmeldeschluss für die 47
Wettkampfkategorien und für die offenen Kategorien Holiday und
Challenge ist auf den 17. Juni 2019 festgelegt. Danach sind
Nachmeldungen bis am Lauftag noch in den Kategorien Holiday und
Challenge möglich. Im Startgeld inbegriffen ist der umfassende
SOW-Transportpass. Er stellt für die SOW-Teilnehmenden den
Zugang zum gesamten ÖV-Angebot zwischen Zweisimmen - Gstaad
- Château-d’Oex und Gstaad - Gsteig/Lauenen sicher und schliesst
die SOW-Transporte an die Etappen 2 und 3 auf dem Col du Pillon,
die Bergbahn-Fahrten an den Etappen 4 und 6 sowie den Besuch
der Gletscherwelt auf dem Glacier 3000 ein. Besitzerinnen und
Besitzer eines Generalabonnements SBB erhalten eine
Entschädigung von zehn Franken in Form eines Rail-Bons.

Stage 1: The cultivated – urban start into the Swiss O Week
2019

The athletic menu of the Swiss O Week 2019 includes 6 courses.
Each course, the stages, is continuously going to increase the
competitors’ appetite. With the last peep of the start clock, the
runners take their orienteering map, eyes focussed on the layout of
the course and follow the line on the map from the start triangle to
the first circle and beyond which means that the competition has
started for real. At this point the tension has eased as the printed
course on the map shows all the information for finding the
controls. Six course-setting teams are designing fair and great
courses for the expected three thousand and more starters in 52
categories.

Christoph and Beatrice Aeschlimann, both of “ol norska” club
appreciate the specific challenges of the sprint O-race. As they both

are advocates of the sprint discipline, it is obvious that they take on
the course-setting for the urban start to SOW 2019 in the centre of
town of Gstaad.

A town centre which is very interesting from a map-technical
and a touristic point of view

When riding by train from the Simmental to Gstaad one follows the
tracks for one last big bend before entering the train station and
sees green meadows, the village and the Alps as a backdrop. Beat
Imhof views Gstaad belonging to the municipality of Saanen as
having “an interesting town centre that is surrounded by a roughly
structured collection of residential areas with large villas and lush
hotel parks in hilly terrain that add to the map-technical and
touristic aspects of the orienteering challenge”.

The event centre will be on the ice-skating grounds. The week
before the SOW 2019 the beach volleyball- as well as the tennis
tournament which has been held here for over 100 years, will be
taking place. The structure of the town allows for interesting sprint
orienteering courses with tricky passages in the town centre and
interesting route-choice problems. The longer categories will also be
challenged with demanding climbs.
The over hundred students from the schools of the surrounding
areas as well as the Pays-d’Enhaut will have somewhat simpler
courses. They have qualified to run in this final event of the SOW-
2019-student cup which is integrated into the first stage.

The sprint course-setters have the demanding task to get in touch
with all the owners and residents to make sure that control flags
can be placed out front or in the back of a building or even in an
underpass. The feed-back from the local population has been
positive showing a real interest for the event. Christoph
Aeschlimann also happened to ring the bell on a house where the
new catholic priest had just started his first working day.

Beatrice and Christoph Aeschlimann will have invested three to four
weeks and a big part of it on foot by walking around town in Gstaad
until on Sunday, 4 August 2019, the first competitor will start for
his/her sprint course. They are looking forward to more friendly
encounters with the people of Gstaad, but also to the feed-back of
the runners after having completed their courses.

Sign-ups are arriving
Since 1 August 2018 the information with all the details for the
SOW 2019 Gstaad is published on the website www.swiss-o-
week.ch and the Swiss registration platform GO2OL (www.go2ol.ch)
is open. Up to now, entries from ten different countries have been
registered. The very first entry was from Bent Galborgen from
Norway.
Note: Early birds will benefit from a reduced fee when signing up on
GO2OL until 31 January 2019. The final deadline for the 47
competitive classes and the Holiday and Challenge open classes is
17 June 2019. After this date, late entries are only accepted until
the day of the competition in the Holiday and Challenge classes.

The entry fee includes the comprehensive SOW-transport pass of
the area. It includes the entire train and bus public transport
system between Zweisimmen – Gstaad – Château d’Oex as well as
Gstaad – Gsteig/Lauenen but also the special SOW transport to
stages 2 and 3 onto the Col du Pillon, the mountain rides to stages
4 and 6 and the visit to the glacier world on Glacier 3000. Owners
of the Swiss GA travel card will receive a CHF 10. - Rail voucher as
compensation.

Le menu sportif de la Swiss O Week 2019 se compose de six plats,
et chaque étape favorise continuellement la fièvre de la
compétition. Avec le dernier bip sonore du départ, la course débute
et le regard est attaché sur la carte, il suit immédiatement la ligne
du triangle de départ en direction du premier cercle et plus loin - la
tension est relâchée. Le circuit imprimé donne les informations pour
trouver les postes de contrôles, la course d'orientation a commencé.
Six équipes de traceurs pour les étapes créent les courses pour 52
catégories avec les trois mille sportifs attendus ou plus, les
conditions pour les lignes et les cercles autour de l’objet défini, afin
que chaque participant puisse courir sur de bonnes et équitables
voies.

Christoph et Beatrice Aeschlimann sont membres du club ol norska.
Ils apprécient les défis spécifiques de la course d’orientation en
sprint – ils sont les avocats de cette spécialité. Il était donc evident,
qu'ils concevraient tous les deux le début urbain de la SOW 2019
dans le village à Gstaad en fonction des traceurs de parcours.

Gstaad – la zone touristique est intéressante pour la
compétition avec la carte

Si vous prenez le train du Simmental à Gstaad, vous prenez un
dernier grand virage devant la gare et vous verrez des prés verts, le
village et les Alpes à l'arrière-plan - la destination Gstaad. Beat
Imhof, qui a relevé la carte, décrit Gstaad comme une zone
intéressante pour la compétition comme pour les touristes. Le
centre est entouré d'un "ensemble de zones résidentielles peu
structuré avec de grandes villas et des parcs hôteliers deluxes en
terrain plutôt décliné". Le centre de compétition sera situé sur la
patinoire, où auparavant se dérouleront les tournois du beach volley
et du tennis, immédiatement avant l'énoncé des travaux pour la
SOW 2019. La structure du village permet de tracer différents
parcours intéressants pour le sprint. Les participants trouveront des
passages délicats dans le centre du village et, grâce aux chambres
de terrain, ils auront des choix de trajets intéressants. Dans les
catégories plus longues, même les ascensions les plus exigeantes
auront une influence.

Des trajets plus faciles seront trouvés pour une centaine des
écoliers du Saanenland et du Pays-d'Enhaut qui se sont qualifiés
pour la finale du cup des écoliers de la SOW 2019, qui sera intégré
dans la première étape.

Les tâches intensives pour le traçage de parcours en sprint
consistent à contacter les propriétaires et les résidents pour
s'assurer qu'ils peuvent placer les postes de contrôles, par exemple
à l'arrière du bâtiment, sur le parvis ou dans un passage souterrain.
Les expériences avec la population locale sont positives,
l'acceptation est très intéressante - par exemple lorsque Christoph
Aeschlimann a appelé le nouveau pasteur catholique de la maison
lors de sa première journée de travail à Gstaad.

Béatrice et Christoph Aeschlimann auront passé trois à quatre
semaines de preparation. Le dimanche 4 août 2019 à neuf heures,
le premier participant partira pour la SOW et commencera la CO en
sprint, le couple responsable la plupart du temps à Gstaad même,
attend avec impatience d'autres belles rencontres avec les
indigènes et touristes de Gstaad, et surtout les réactions des
coureurs.

L’inscription est ouverte

Depuis le 1 août l’inscription avec tous les détails pour SOW 2019
Gstaad est publiée sur le site www.swiss-o-week.ch, le portail
d'inscription GO2OL.ch ouvert. Des inscriptions ont déjà été reçues
de dix pays différents. La première inscription a été faite par Bent
Galborgen de Norvège.

Votre avantage, si vous vous inscrivez à la SOW 2019 sur le portail
d'inscription avant le 31 janvier 2019, vous bénéficierez de la
réduction pour les réservations anticipées ! Le délai d'inscription
pour 47 catégories de compétition et pour les catégories ouvertes
est fixée au 17 juin 2019. Par la suite, les inscriptions tardives

                           Château-d'Oex et Gstaad - Gsteig/Lauenen, aux transports spéciaux
                           pour les étapes 2 et 3 sur le Col du Pillon, tout comme les
                           transports en télécabine pour les étapes 4 et 6 et une visite du
                           Glacier 3000. Les détenteurs d'un abonnement général CFF
                           recevront un bon d'achat de CHF 10.
