DEA took advantage of the launch of this
year’s Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS)
in Cairo in February to make a powerful
statement. CEO Maria Moræus Hanssen
announced that DEA is set to invest around
US$ 500 million in projects in the country
over the next three years.
T
hese investments will be used to significantly increase
production from the oilfields in the Gulf of Suez and from
the Disouq gas fields in the Nile Delta (see report on page
40) and to bring three more fields in the West Nile Delta
project into production. »Egypt will remain an important
factor in our portfolio. We’re planning to use targeted in-
vestment to double our production in the country within the next three
years«, said Hanssen.
EGYPS is one of the most important conferences and exhibitions in the
E&P industry in North Africa and was officially opened by the President of
Egypt. The event brought together politicians and employees of the national
oil and gas authorities from Egypt and the rest of North Africa, represen-
tatives from international E&P companies, service providers, advisers and
investors. They discussed the changing opportunities in the Egyptian and
North African oil, gas and energy sector.
In a panel discussion, CEO Moræus Hanssen made it clear that
close cooperation and a reliable partnership between all those involved
in a project is essential for sustained success in the oil and gas indus-
try. Hanssen and Christof Wallmann, West Nile Delta Project Manager
at DEA, emphasised the positive, optimistic mood and the zest that can
clearly be felt in talks with Egyptian partners.
DEA was represented at the exhibition with a stand where DEA
experts provided visitors with information on current projects in Egypt,
as well as the innovative technologies that the company uses in its oil
and gas exploration and production around the world. Guests could also
discover the Mittelplate drilling and production platform on a virtual
reality tour. At the technical conference that formed part of EGYPS,
Ahmed Mustafa, Reservoir Engineer at DEA Egypt, presented a case
study on the Disouq project.

site with short entertaining video statements and brief updates, includ-
ing the personal impressions of those interviewed, giving those interest-
ed the opportunity to follow the highlights in real time.
