This series of 3 dozens ceramic eggs are all variations of the same cast.
The project evolved from a interlingual pun between the German word Ei
I SEE (DON‘T COUNT THE CHICKENS)
which means Egg and the English words I, Eye, which are pronounced
similarly. (Ei scream, Ice cream, I said, Eye said, Ei ball an so on) From there
the sculptures explore different kind of ideas: linguistic, content related,
comical, formal, semiotic, etc.
The series is displayed on geometric modules or shelves (depending on the
space they are shown in), creating an environment or display in which they
are put in a spatial relationship to each other, as well as to the space.
I said, Eye sad, Ei ball, usw.)

x 112 cm, lackiertes MDF, 2018AGENDA I do not depict actual spaces or possible architectures in which narrative situations take place. I develop abstract scenes that are both axiomatic and enigmatic, and in which different forms and elements meet. All paintings in this series show two identical (mirrored) hands. While in all paintings these hands have the same actual size, the size of the canvas and thereby the detail and proportion of the hands varies in relation to the size of the painting. To the superstructure of the hands, which remain identical except for the color of the nail polish, changing elements or motifs - pyramidal shapes, spheres, holes, transparent ribbons, door handles or bananas are added. In complex spatial situations, the manicured hands reach into cavities or protrude out of them and are combined with other systems of representation: pictogram-like elements, line drawings and geometrical shapes which sometimes create volumes, sometimes cavities, intersecting or nesting inside each other. The pictorial space becomes a system in which forms and objects can be combined to different chains of meaning, like words can be combined to sentences. Depending on how structure and module relate to each other, the gestures embodied by the hands, and the linguistic access to them, change: access, intervene, reach into, grasp, let go, or hold on to. While all the paintings of the series depict the same gesture which is open to interpretation, I try to avoid the „painterly gesture“ - still an expression of (male) genius and spontaneity – not least through the use of modules and systems and a formalized and partly typographic painting style.

During 12/8/2019, noon -12/9/2019, noon I painted 24 more or less identical paintings after my memory of a
wall clock my parents used to have over our kitchen table, picturing a illustrative sunrise/sunset over the ocean. I
constantly wondered about this strange image that just made sense with the actual time twice a day.
I started a new painting, showing the starting time every full hour and stopped when I had to start the new one.
Interestingly while I had a slight learning curve during the first 5 paintings the other paintings are very consistent
even though it was pretty tired after 17. I guess the training compensated the fatigue.

This clock has a second hand that ticks backwards. The mirrored face of the clock has an image of a dolphin on
it, which also appears in the video. While dolphins, of course, are no fish, it loosely references Duchamp’s Roto
Relief ‘Poisson Japonais’ (also in the title). The whole clock is connected to a motor so that it rotates twice per
minute in clockwise direction. In this way, while still ticking counterclockwise the second hand describes a minute
clockwise. The dolphin “swims” two rounds per minute but just meets the second hand every full minute.

sides are equally long? Then from I to you would be the same distance than
from I to we and from you to I and you to we. But for me, you would in fact
only be between I and we when I would take the longer way. You would be
some kind of a detour for I to take to we - the double length. That’s not very
promising. Taking the shorter way I would be we with you standing aside.
Or you would be we with I standing aside. Or you would have to take the
detour. Also not promising. If the triangle would be obtuse between you and
I, it wouldn’t be as much a detour but it still would be one.
Perhaps it’s no triangle but a line and it’s not you that is between I and we
but we that is between you and I. Then none of us, not I, not you, had to
take the longer way or be the reason for a detour. But that would also mean
you and I can’t meet in we or without one of us crossing we. What does that
mean to you? Crossing we.
Is that a good thing? Somehow I don’t like this image. Do you?
What if you and I were on circular lines. We could be in the center. Even
if you and I would not be on the same line you and I could still be on
intersecting ones. Then there would be two places where you and I would
definitely meet and you and I would have the choice to take the shortest or
longest way to we. We could even go together. Also you could move closer
or sometimes farther away from I (and I could do the same) without moving
away from we.
You and I could even be on the same circular line. Then you could get close
to I or sometimes move away from I. And I could do the same thing. This You is something between we and I,

It is Sunday 3 a.m.
The first 6 weeks after we moved I slept on an air mattress. Jetlag was a nice experience. Flying west you win
time. While for my inner clock it would be early morning it was before midnight when I went to bed to sleep 8
hours and get up early.
We bought a memory foam mattress after we rented an apartment. Sleeping on it the first nights my whole
body ached in the morning, my arms went numb during the night. When I got up the mattress looked like no
one had ever lain on it. I wonder why they call it memory foam. The mattress doesn’t seem to remember; my
body definitely does.
At night I hardly ever feel tired. I go to bed and lie there wide awake. I listen to my partner‘s breathing, snoring,
mumbling. The air from the window smells clean. Sometimes the room aches. I feel rested and relaxed. Some
nights I get up to sketch or write. Some nights I just stay there lying in the dark. My body is warm and heavy,
my thoughts are clear. I feel oddly separated from myself. While my mind is alert my body merges with the
mattress. Those nights I feel like I never have to sleep again. Tomorrow is far away or already there, I have
forever. I do calculations in my head or think of works I never make.
When the morning is finally there, the mattress embraces me even firmer, pulls me below its surface. I feel
rectangular and sink into a deep sleep.
Tomorrow I have a million things to do.
Mitternacht ins Bett ging.
Murmeln meines Partners. Die Luft vom Fenster her riecht sauber.
In manchen Nächten

Tulips for Margarete
Cleaning out my grandmother’s jewelry drawer after her death, I found
four Polaroids of a bouquet of tulips in a white envelope in the place where
she kept her jewelry. The pictures were taken in her dining room from four
different angles. The bouquet doesn’t look extraordinary. I never learnt who
gave it to her.

Félicette was the name of the first cat that was sent to
space by French scientists in 1963. She was a stray
and is the only cat that came back from space alive.
After her return, several tests were conducted before
she was killed so that her brain could be examined.
Apparently nothing world-shaking was found. After her
success and death, she was remembered as Félix, the
(male) cat in space. Even commemorative stamps of
‘Félix’ were printed. It took decades until this injustice
was corrected. In 2020 finally a statue to remember
Félicette was unveiled in France.
von französischen Wissenschaftlern ins All geschickt
Man druckte
sogar Gedenkbriefmarken zu Ehren von „Félix“. Es
dauerte Jahrzehnte, bis diese Ungerechtigkeit korrigiert
wurde. Im Jahr 2020 endlich, wurde in Frankreich eine
Statue enthüllt, um an Félicette zu erinnern.
