ünchen freut sich au-
ßerordentlich, bereits zum zweiten Mal Various Voices, Europas größtes
Festival für LGBTI*-Chöre, zu beherbergen. Es wird ein großes Ereignis für
die Musikstadt München, wenn von 9. bis 13. Mai fast 100 Chöre mit rund
2.700 Sänger*innen aus 19 Ländern unser Kulturzentrum Gasteig zum
Klingen bringen. Und nicht nur den Gasteig, denn zwei Stadtbühnen am
Max-Joseph-Platz und am Odeonsplatz bringen das Festival ins Herz der
Stadt. Ganz besonders die Mitsing-Aufführung der „Carmina Burana“ des
gebürtigen Münchners Carl Orff wird für alle Beteiligten sicher ein unver-
gessliches Erlebnis.
Mit seinem Programm möchte Various Voices nicht nur die teilnehmen-
den Chöre und interessierte Konzertbesucher*innen ansprechen, sondern
eine möglichst breite Stadtöffentlichkeit. Damit wird auch die Community
der Lesben, Schwulen und Transgender in München wieder gestärkt. Das ist
ein besonderer Grund zur Freude, denn ihre Gleichstellung und Akzeptanz
als gleichberechtigte Mitglieder der Stadtgesellschaft zählt zu den wich-
tigsten Anliegen der Münchner Stadtpolitik. Auch in diesem Sinne wünsche
ich allen Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern viel Freude beim Singen und
einen schönen Aufenthalt in unserer weltoffenen, kulturell vielfältigen und
musikbegeisterten Stadt und danke ganz herzlich dem ehrenamtlichen
Organisationsteam! ∫

Munich is delighted to host for the second time Various Voices, Europe’s
largest festival for LGBTI* choirs. It will be a big event for the music city of
Munich, when from 9 to 13 May almost 100 choirs with some 2,700 singers
from 19 countries will bring our cultural centre Gasteig to life. And not
just the Gasteig, because two stages in the city, in Max-Joseph-Platz and
Odeonsplatz, will bring the festival into the heart of Munich. Especially the
sing-along event of “Carmina Burana”, composed by Munich native Carl
Orff, is bound to be an unforgettable experience for all concerned.
With its programme, Various Voices wants to address not only the
participating choirs and interested concert-goers but also the broadest
possible public in the city. This will also strengthen the lesbian, gay and
transgender community in Munich. And this is a special reason for joy,
because their equality and acceptance as equal members of the city soci-
ety is among the most important concerns of Munich’s city politics. In this
sense too I wish all participants much joy in singing, and an enjoyable stay in
our cosmopolitan, culturally diverse and music-loving city: and my hearty

Various Voices 2018 München ist das 14. und bislang größte europäische LGBTI*-Chorfestival.
Vom 9. bis 13. Mai sind über 90 Chöre aus 19 Ländern in München zu Gast. In sämtlichen Sälen des
Kulturzentrums Gasteig und auf vielen öffentlichen Plätzen werden 2.700 Sängerinnen und Sänger fünf Tage
lang gemeinsam mit ihrem Publikum singen und feiern. Zuletzt durfte München 2004 mit den
EuroGames ein schwullesbisches Großereignis ausrichten – und das mit großem Erfolg. In insgesamt 26
Disziplinen traten damals Sportler*innen aus ganz Europa gegeneinander an. Umso schöner also, dass es
bald wieder heißt: Herzlich willkommen in München, herzlich willkommen bei Various Voices 2018!
Various Voices 2018 in Munich is the 14th and largest European LGBTI* Choir Festival yet. From May 9th to
13th the city will host more than 90 choirs from 19 different countries. 2,700 singers will sing and celebrate
with their audience for five days in all of the Gasteig concert halls and many public venues. The last time
Munich had the chance to organize a major lesbian and gay event was hosting the EuroGames in 2004 – and
they were very successful. Athletes from all over Europe competed in 26 disciplines against each other.

from four countries. Munich is hosting the fes-

participated. Some of them are joining us again
