Die CeBIT ist einer der zentralen Gradmesser
für die Lage der gesamten Branche Informa-
tions- und Telekommunikationstechnik (ITK).
Diese ist auch im laufenden Jahr wieder auf Wachstum
programmiert. Der Erfolg dieses Wirtschaftsbereiches ist
für unser Land Nordrhein-Westfalen von besonderer
Bedeutung, da hier über 350.000 Menschen in der
Medienwirtschaft arbeiten, davon mehr als 100.000 in der
ITK-Branche. Nach einer Studie des BITKOM (Bundes-
verband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und
neue Medien e.V.) rechnen rund 70 Prozent der deutschen
ITK-Unternehmen in diesem Jahr mit weiter steigenden
Umsätzen. Der Branchenverband erwartet ein Wachstum
deutlich über dem gesamtwirtschaftlichen Wachstum.
Innovationen sind der Motor dieser Entwicklung. Sie sind
ein Erfolgsfaktor im globalen Wettbewerb. Und sie tragen
zur Sicherung von Arbeitsplätzen bei. Nur diejenigen
Unternehmen, die sich mit ihren Produkten und Dienst-
leistungen, aber auch in ihren inner- und überbetrieb-
lichen Abläufen stetig modernisieren, werden auf Dauer
Bestand am Markt haben.
Zur Darstellung der Vielfalt und Leistungsfähigkeit seiner
ITK-Branche ist das Land Nordrhein-Westfalen auf der
diesjährigen CeBIT vom 09.03. bis 15.03.2006 in Hanno-
ver mit drei Gemeinschaftsständen vertreten:
Antworten auf die Frage, woher das erhoffte Wirtschafts-
wachstum kommen soll, geben die Unternehmen auf dem
NRW-Firmengemeinschaftsstand in Halle 3, Stand C03.
Sie präsentieren neue Anwendungen und Dienstleistun-
gen auf der Basis von Breitbandtechnologien und RFID
(Radio Frequency Identification). Diese Querschnitts-

technologien geben der Wirtschaft insgesamt wichtige
Wachstumsimpulse, schaffen mehr Produktivität und
eröffnen neue Märkte. Die auf RFID basierenden Innova-
tionsstrategien der großen Einzelhandelsketten lassen
bereits erkennen, dass diese Technologie zu grundlegen-
den Veränderungen von Prozessen und Dienstleistungen
führen wird, und dies nicht nur in der Warenwirtschaft
und Logistik, sondern in unterschiedlichsten Branchen.
Viele kleine und mittelständische IT-Unternehmen im
Software- und Servicebereich können sich hierdurch
völlig neue Geschäftsfelder erschließen. Breitbandige
Kommunikationstechnologien wie UMTS (Universal
Mobile Telecommunication System), WiMAX (World-
wide Interoperability for Microwave Access) und DSL
(Digital Subscriber Line) bieten heute mehr als schnelles
Internet. Sie eröffnen ein umfangreiches Spektrum an
professionellen Anwendungen für Bereiche wie E-Health
im Gesundheitswesen oder E-Government in der öffent-
lichen Verwaltung.
Exzellente, praxis- und vermarktungsorientierte For-
schungs- und Entwicklungsleistungen werden auf dem
Gemeinschaftsstand „Innovationsland Nordrhein-West-
falen“ der Hochschulen und außeruniversitären For-
schungseinrichtungen des Landes in Halle 9, Stand C16,
präsentiert. Das Themenspektrum reicht von IT-Sicher-
heitsanwendungen über maßgeschneiderte Software-
Lösungen für klein- und mittelständische Unternehmen,
Open-Source-Plattformen für den Bereich des e-Learn-
ings bis hin zu Systemen zur mobilen Sport- und Fitness-
unterstützung. Die Exponate sind überzeugender Beweis
für die Dynamik und das Pozential auf dem Weg Nord-

rhein-Westfalens zum Innovationsland Nummer 1. Und
natürlich dokumentieren sie individuelle Spitzenleistun-
gen aus dem gesamten Spektrum von der Grundlagen-
forschung über die anwendungsorientierte Forschung bis
hin zur forschungsorientierten Dienstleistung.
Ein modernes Nordrhein-Westfalen braucht eine moderne
Verwaltung. Welchen Beitrag E-Government dazu leisten
kann, wird auf dem Gemeinschaftsstand des Innenminis-
teriums NRW in Halle 9, Stand D25 dargestellt. So stellt
die Landesverwaltung den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern
sowie der Wirtschaft bereits heute eine Vielzahl ihrer
Dienstleistungen auch online zur Verfügung. Zu den ins-
gesamt etwa 1000 Dienstleistungs- und Informations-
angeboten zählen beispielsweise die elektronische
Steuererklärung, der Geoserver NRW, das elektronische
Vergabesystem, das Portal Justiz-Online und die Geneh-
migung von Ausnahmen im Schwerlastverkehr.
Wir laden Sie herzlich ein, sich an den drei NRW-
Gemeinschaftsständen auf der CeBIT 2006 über das
Innovationspotenzial der ITK-Branche in Nordrhein-

CeBIT is a central indicator of the economic
situation of entire information and telecom-
munications technology (ITT) sector. Further
growth has been forecast for this year. The success of this
industrial sector is especially important for the state of
North Rhine-Westphalia, where more than 350,000
people are currently employed in the media industry,
100,000 of which are directly involved in the ITT sector.
According to a study conducted by BITKOM (Bundesver-
band Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und
neue Medien e.V.) around 70 per cent of German IT com-
panies anticipate further growth in sales this year. The
industrial association expects growth to be significantly
above that of the overall economy.
Innovations are the driving force behind this develop-
ment. They are a success factor in global competition.
And they help to secure jobs. Only companies that contin-
uously modernise their products and services, along with
their internal and external business procedures, can
ensure their long-term existence on the market.
To demonstrate the diversity and economic efficiency of
the ITT sector, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia will be
represented with three joint stands at this year’s CeBIT
from 9th to 15th March in Hanover:
The companies at the NRW joint stand in Hall 3, C 03 will
answer questions about where they believe the hoped-for
economic growth will stem from. They will present new
applications and services based on broadband technolo-
gies and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). These

cross-sectional technologies provide important growth
impulses for the economy as a whole, increase produc-
tivity and open up new markets. RFID-based innovation
strategies of large retail chains already reveal that this
technology will lead to significant changes of processes
and services, not only in the merchandise management
and logistics sectors, but also in various other branches
of industry. This allows many small and medium-sized IT
businesses in the software and services business to tap
into completely new business areas. Today, broadband
communications technologies, such as UMTS (Universal
Mobile Telecommunication System), WiMAX (Worldwide
Interoperability for Microwave Access) and DSL (Digital
Subscriber Line) offer more than just a fast Internet
access. They open up a whole range of professional
applications e.g. for e-health in the health care sector or
e-government in the public administration sector.
Excellent, application-orientated and marketing-based
research and development achievements will be presented
at the “North Rhine-Westphalia – State of Innovation”
stand of the universities and non-university research in-
stitutes in Hall 9, Stand C 16. The spectrum of topics
ranges from IT security applications to customised soft-
ware solutions for SMEs, and open source platforms for
e-learning through to mobile sport and fitness support
systems. The exhibits are convincing evidence of North
Rhine-Westphalia’s dynamic force and potential on its
way to becoming Germany’s No. 1 innovation state. They
will, of course, also be presenting individual achieve-

ments from the total service spectrum, including basic
research, application-oriented research and research-
based services.
The modern state of North Rhine-Westphalia requires a
modern administration. How e-government can contri-
bute to this will be demonstrated at the joint stand of the
NRW Interior Ministry in Hall 9, Stand D 25. The state
administration already offers citizens and the industry a
multitude of services online. The approximately 1000
services and information services include the possibility
of making electronic tax declarations, the NRW Geoser-
ver, electronic bidding, the online justice portal and the
granting of exemptions for heavy goods vehicle traffic.
We warmly invite you to visit our three joint stands at the
CeBIT 2006 and to satisfy yourselves of the innovation
potential of the ITT sector in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Profile The Robot Club Aachen has a fascination for
robotics and autonomous systems. Around 25 students
from RWTH Aachen University are currently designing
autonomous mobile robots and will compete against
teams from all over the world at the EUROBOT Open.
There, the robots engage in playful competition against
each other. Each year the tasks vary– all tasks are tech-
nically challenging, sporty and thrilling for the entire
audience.
The current German winner will present himself at the
CeBIT 2006 trade fair with an interactive show. The
award-winning robot Beaufort, a nine-cornered goal-
keeper, and Sarge, the remorseless goal-getter, will com-
pete against each other on the playing field.

Slip into the role of the striker or the goalkeeper and win
a coveted NRW World Cup football in a captivating game.

Breitbandtechnologien bieten mehr als
schnelles Internet. Sie sind die Basis für ein
wachsendes Spektrum neuer Dienstleistungen. Für Nord-
rhein-Westfalen hat die Nutzung der hiermit verbundenen
Wachstums- und Beschäftigungschancen höchste Priori-
tät. Mit der Initiative Breitband NRW schafft das Land
deshalb die Voraussetzungen dafür, dass Unternehmen in
NRW die Innovationspotenziale der Breitbandtechnolo-
gien ausschöpfen können.
Unternehmen und Initiativen aus NRW zeigen auf der
CeBIT innovative Dienstleistungen mit Breitbandtech-
nologien. Lösungen für den Bereich des Gesundheits-
wesens zählen ebenso hierzu wie neue Mehrwertdienste
für „Smartes Wohnen“ mit vernetzten Sicherheits-,
Komfort-, Unterhaltungs- oder Überwachungs- und
Betreuungsfunktionen in intelligenten Gebäuden. Mit
dem Wachstum der Breitbandkommunikation steigt der
Bedarf an IT-Sicherheitslösungen. Auch in diesem
Wachstumsbereich sind Unternehmen aus NRW gefragte
Dienstleister, die beispielhaft für die Innovationskraft des
Landes in den Wachstumsmärkten der Informations- und
Kommunikationstechnik stehen.
Broad band technologies offer more than
just a fast access to the Internet. They are the
basis for a growing range of new services. North Rhine-
Westphalia has given maximum priority to the exploita-
tion of opportunities for economic growth and employ-
ment that this brings with it. With the NRW Broadband
Initiative, North Rhine-Westphalia therefore seeks to
create the premises for companies in NRW to make full
use of the innovation potential provided by broad band
technologies.

Companies and initiatives from North Rhine-Westphalia
will be displaying innovative services based on broad-
band technologies at the CeBIT trade fair. These include
solutions for the health care sector as well as new value-
added services for “intelligent living”, involving the
networking of security, comfort, entertainment or sur-
veillance and assistance functions in “intelligent build-
ings”. The growth of broadband communications has also
been accompanied by a growing demand for IT security
solutions. North Rhine Westphalian services providers are
very much in demand in this growth area, representing the
state’s innovation potential in the information and
communications technologies (ICT) growth markets in an
exemplary fashion.

bereits von ersten Anwendungen. RFID wird in vielen

ständische IT-Unternehmen können sich hierdurch völlig

Nordrhein-Westfalen besitzt Vorsprünge bei der Ent-
wicklung und Nutzung von RFID-Technologien und hat
daher gute Chancen auf eine vordere Position im stark
wachsenden RFID-Markt. Im Rahmen der Initiative
Breitband NRW hat das Land das Thema daher frühzeitig
