“Deutsche Soldaten! Hitler hat Euer Volk zu Hunger, Not und Leiden verdammt.
Lest die Wahrheit über die Zustände in Deutschland.
Englische Bomber über Schweinfurt
Die Aktivität der englischen Luftwaffe nimmt weiter zu. Immer neue deutsche Städte werden zum Ziel der
englischen Bombardierungen.
An den Soldaten Hans Freund (Feldpost Nr. 12487) schreibt seine Schwester aus Schweinfurt: ‘Hans, bei
uns war diese Woche zweimal Alarm. Von Sonntag auf Montag hat sich ein Flieger in 500 Meter Höhe über
Schweinfurt herumgetrieben. Über Sonntag, da haben die Flieger 46 Sprengbomben und eine Menge
Brandbomben abgeworfen. Es sind 50 Häuser dem Erdboden gleichgemacht, 60 schwer beschädigt und
eine Brücke demoliert. 270 Menschen sind obdachlos. Die Zahl der Toten konnte noch nicht genau
angegeben werden. Viele liegen unter den Trümmern. Das Feuer brannte noch am Montag Abend, weil
die Wasserleitung auch kaputt ist.’
Deutschland am Rand einer Lebensmittelkatastrophe
Ende 1941 behaupteten die Nazis grossmäulig, dass die Brotrationen niemals herabgesetzt werden, und
dass sich die Lage nicht wiederholen wird, in der sich Deutschland 1914-1918 befand. Es waren aber
kaum wenige Monate vergangen, und siehe, am 6. April wurde das deutsche Volk auf genau dieselbe
Hunger-Brotration gesetzt wie im Jahre 1918.
Schuld an der Lebensmittelkrise in Deutschland ist nur einer—das ist Hitler.
Hitler hat die Landwirtschaft Deutschlands ruiniert: durch seine Zwangsmassnahmen und Abgaben, durch
die Einberufung aller arbeitsfähigen Männer zum Heer und Einziehung des Zugviehs.
Hitler hat durch seine Eroberungszüge die Agrarländer Europas ruiniert und viele von ihnen aus Ländern,
die landwirtschaftliche Produkte erzeugen, zu verbrauchenden Ländern gemacht.
Durch seinen Überfall auf die Sowjetunion entzog Hitler dem deutschen Volk das russische Getreide; in
den okkupierten Gebieten aber weigern sich die russischen, ukrainischen, und belorussische Bauern, für
den Feind zu arbeiten.
Das deutsche Volk wird erst dann keine Lebensmittelnot kennen, wenn es Hitler und seine Bande aus dem
Lande gejagt hat und Frieden mit allen Völkern aufrichtet.
Nur die Reichen brauchen Krieg
Bei dem bei Charkow gefallenen Unteroffizier Wilhelm Katzenmeier (Feldpost Nr. 19640 C) wurde ein Brief
von seinem Bruder Franz aus Hannover gefunden, in dem es heisst: ‘Lieber Willi, es ist nur schade, dass es
bei uns noch Plutokraten gibt, denn die werden dafür sorgen, dass der Krieg nicht so schnell zu Ende geht
und auch in Zukunft die Völker auseinandergesetzt werden. Die Reichen entbehren auch im Krieg gar
nichts. Sie verdienen schweres Geld, während man uns in sehr schönen Worten erzählt, wie schön es ist,
sich für das Vaterland zu opfern. Es ist ja nichts Erfreuliches, was ich Dir hier mitteile, aber es sind
Tatsachen, vor denen man die Augen nicht verschliessen kann. Ich zerbreche mir nur über eines den Kopf:

English bombers over Schweinfurt
The activity of the English Air Force continues to grow. New German cities are always the target of the
British bombing.
His sister from Schweinfurt wrote to soldier Hans Freund (Field Post No. 12487): ‘Hans, we had two alarms
this week. From Sunday to Monday, a plane drifted around 500 meters above Schweinfurt. On Sunday, the
planes dropped 46 explosive bombs and a lot of incendiary bombs. 50 houses were razed to the ground,
60 were badly damaged and a bridge demolished. 270 people are homeless. The exact number of deaths
could not yet be specified. Many lie under the rubble. The fire was still burning on Monday evening
because the water pipes are broken too. "
Germany on the brink of a food disaster
At the end of 1941, the Nazis loudly claimed that bread rations would never be reduced and that the
situation in which Germany found itself in 1914-1918 would not be repeated. But hardly a few months had
passed, and lo and behold, on April 6th the German people were put on exactly the same hunger bread
ration as in 1918.
Only one person is to blame for the food crisis in Germany - that is Hitler.
Hitler ruined Germany's agriculture: through his coercive measures and taxes, through the calling up of all
able-bodied men into the army and the drawing up of the migrating cattle.
With his campaigns of conquest, Hitler ruined the agricultural countries of Europe and turned many of
them from countries that produce agricultural products into consuming countries.
By attacking the Soviet Union, Hitler withdrew Russian grain from the German people; in the occupied
areas, however, the Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian peasants refuse to work for the enemy.
The German people will only know of no food shortage when they have chased Hitler and his gang out of
the country and established peace with all peoples.
Only the rich need war
A letter from his brother Franz from Hanover was found on Sergeant Wilhelm Katzenmeier (Field Post No.
19640 C) who had fallen near Charkow. It said: 'Dear Willi, it's just a shame that we still have plutocrats
because they will ensure that the war does not end quickly and that the peoples will continue to be
divided in the future. Even in war, the rich don’t go without anything. They earn much money, while we are
told in very nice terms how great it is to sacrifice ourselves for the fatherland. There is nothing pleasant
about what I am telling you here, but it is a fact that one cannot turn a blind eye to. I'm just puzzled over
one thing: where is the way out? Your brother Franz. ’
