Mobility as a Service in Rural Regions
Diplomand/in Phillip Barber
Referent/in Ralf Vogler
Korreferent/in Erik Linden
Auftraggeber/in CFAC of the HSG
Vertiefungsrichtung eCommerce and Sales in Tourism
Mobility as a Service is touted as the all-encompassing solution to future mobility needs that blends traditional
public transport services with access to new shared modes. At the center of the ecosystem is a booking platform
that acts as an integrator of mobility services linking each to the consumer. While the organism is focused towards
the urban user who has a comprehensive offering within the systems boundaries, rural users on the outskirts of
the structure are unlikely to be served so well.
A qualitative inductive approach through an ethnographic study was undertaken in combination with semi structu-
red expert interviews of transport providers to establish the drivers of rural customers as well as their future
transportation offerings.
The findings present clashes between future solutions and the needs of the users, who may experience increased
journey times and costs, resulting in the questioning of the necessity for each journey and reducing their freedom
to enter the system.

5How can the attractiveness of Zurich be improved for North American incentive customers? Diplomand/in Bettina Baumli Referent/in Prof. Dr. phil. Thorsten Merkle Korreferent/in Uta Kroll Auftraggeber/in Convention Bureau Zürich Vertiefungsrichtung Event Communication The convention bureau Zurich is associated with Zurich tourism. The main tasks of the convention bureau Zurich are planning, organizing and implementing business events. One major part of the work are the incentive trips of foreign companies to Zurich. Currently, the number of North American incentive customers in Zurich is not satisfactory, the market is considered to have much more potential, which is not yet fully exploited. This Individual Bachelor thesis investigates the needs, expectations and preferences of North American customers regarding incentive trips. Furthermore, this thesis examines the requirements for an incentive destination. In addition, the current incentive market in Switzerland, especially Zurich, is assessed and analyzed. The study was conducted with the help of industry expert interviews. Finally, suggestions for improvements are included in the recommendations. Evaluation of tools that ease rental processes of second-homes Diplomand/in Oliver Bernet Referent/in Dominik Knaus Korreferent/in Mik Häfliger Auftraggeber/in Graubünden Ferien Vertiefungsrichtung eCommerce and Sales in Tourism Graubünden Ferien (GRF) is the canton's tourism marketing organisation. Together with its partners, GRF develops and markets new and existing products, packages and services with the aim of attracting more guests. A possible package could be ‘conciergerie’ for 2nd homes, which is the subject of this Bachelor thesis. By offering such to owners, more 2nd homes could be rented to third parties which would result in higher value creation within Grisons. Because of the effort that comes with renting out (cleaning, key handling etc.), many owners do not rent out their apartments. The thesis explains the reasons and tries to find out the biggest pain point through secondary research and expert interviews. From the information gathered, a solution for this pain point, a so-called ‘module’ can then be derived. Different options of the evaluated module are validated with owners and potential guests to find the most suitable. With these recommendations, GRF can continue research in this field. 6
Roadcycling, eine Potential- und Zielgruppen-
analyse für Graubünden
Diplomand/in Giuliana Bonifazi
Referent/in Christopher David Jacobson
Korreferent/in Mike Frei
Auftraggeber/in Graubünden Ferien
Vertiefungsrichtung Sports Management

Binding Standards for Sustainable Lodges
Diplomand/in Tamara Brand
Referent/in Christian Baumgartner
Korreferent/in Inga Meese
Auftraggeber/in Futouris e.V.
Vertiefungsrichtung Sustainable Tourism and International Development
The non-profit association Futouris is committed to a sustainable development of the travel industry. This is
mainly realised through various projects around the world. One of these projects was implemented with the intro-
duction of a binding standard for sustainable lodges in the coherent Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation
Area. However, to ensure the long-term benefits of such initiatives, ongoing revisions and improvements are
essential.
Thus, this bachelor thesis assesses the entire project and provides a concrete guideline for its continuation. Based
on a broad literature research and expert interviews, both the implementation and the results are evaluated. The
benefits for the individual stakeholders are discussed and the challenges during and after the implementation of
the project are identified. On the basis of these findings, the bachelor thesis elaborates future approaches for the
further course of the project and presents possible suggestions for improvement.
7The Potential Travel Behavior of the Asian Generation Z in a Swiss Alpine Destination. The Case of Davos-Klosters Diplomand/in Janick Bösch Referent/in Annika Aebli Korreferent/in Fredi Michel Auftraggeber/in Destination Davos-Klosters Vertiefungsrichtung Sustainable Tourism and International Development Over the past decades, Asia has experienced a strong economic boom along with a rapidly growing population. A development that has turned Asia into a highly attractive market for the international tourism industry. In the foreseeable future, the young Generation Z is expected to experience a significant increase in their international travel activity as a result of rising incomes and a higher level of education. This generation differs greatly from their parents, which is also reflected in a changed travel behavior. The aim of this Bachelor Thesis is to explore the potential travel behavior of the Asian Generation Z in Swiss mountain destinations based on the case of Davos-Klosters. With this goal, interviews with representatives of the Generation Z from Singapore are conducted to explore their needs and expectations with regards to travel in Swiss mountain destinations. Based on that, critical success factors for addressing the target group of Generation Z are identified. Stakeholder Roles in Sustainable Tourism Diplomand/in Silvana da Silva Vasconcelos Referent/in Tanja Bügler Korreferent/in Frau Marianne Frei Auftraggeber/in Society Switzerland-Bhutan Vertiefungsrichtung Sustainable Tourism and International Development The Royal Government of Bhutan institutionalized a worldwide unique sustainable tourism policy, which aims for high-value, low-impact tourism development. Bhutan therefore, has been cited as the prime example case of a successful sustainable tourism approach. The tourism policy is founded on the principles of sustainability, meaning that tourism must be environmentally and ecologically friendly, socially and culturally acceptable and economically viable. Nonetheless, even a sustainable tourism market is faced with issues along the years, stemming primarily from the involved stakeholders. This Bachelor Thesis provides recommendations for improving stakeholder communication and cooperation in Bhutan’s tourism industry by identifying current or possibly upcoming issues. The current tourism stakeholder roles in Bhutan are assessed and analyzed. The assessment is based on the gained knowledge from the inter- views conducted with stakeholder’s representatives in Bhutan. 8

sharing and handling between business partners
Diplomand/in Fabienne Dörig
Referent/in Annika Aebli
Korreferent/in Schläpfer Peter
Auftraggeber/in Bad Zurzach Tourismus AG
Vertiefungsrichtung Sustainable Tourism and International Development
Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) aim to offer holistic guest experiences. Holistic guest experiences
create value for the individual tourist and enhance tourist experiences as such. From a tourism destination per-
spective, cooperation and networking between the individual tourism service providers within the destination are
required to allow for a smooth and holistic guest experience. In this regard, data sharing among the different service
providers and the DMO has become crucial in order to bundle the individual service offers. This paper examines
the basis for successful networking and the willingness for data sharing of service providers by means of the
case Bad Zurzach Tourismus AG. The goal is to disclose potential barriers and explore critical success factors
for data sharing. Thus, the overarching goal of this Bachelor Thesis is to evaluate and minimize the gap between
DMO and business partners regarding data sharing.

Kundensegment in der Moosalpregion
Diplomand/in Selina Döringer
Referent/in Christian Gressbach
Korreferent/in Silvan Zurbriggen
Auftraggeber/in Moosalp Tourismus AG
Vertiefungsrichtung Marketing and Product Development in Tourism
9Attractive summer offering for the mountain destination of Davos Klosters Diplomand/in Miana Evangelista Referent/in Roger Walser Korreferent/in Lea Matea Batt Auftraggeber/in Davos Destinations-Organisation (Genossenschaft) Vertiefungsrichtung eCommerce and Sales in Tourism The destination of Davos Klosters is well-known due to its conferences, diverse sport activities and nature scenery. However, just like any alpine destinations, the destination is plagued with climate and seasonality issues. Due to these factors, the importance of their summer tourism has been recognized. This Bachelor Thesis provides an overview of the needs and behaviour of the tourists in Davos Klosters in the summer. A questionnaire is used to gather vital data but also to identify the gaps of their summer offerings. From the results of the questionnaire, potential offers for the new segment will be discussed. One specific offer will be deeply analysed as per request of the representative of the destination. Recommendations for the specific market segment will be deduced from literature reviews and the questionnaire. The potential of these recommendations will be assessed from interviews with experts from other destinations and an expert with a deep understanding of the segment. Diplomand/in Christa Frutiger
Referent/in Voll Frieder
Korreferent/in Rodewald Raimund
Auftraggeber/in Stiftung Landschaftsschutz Schweiz
Vertiefungsrichtung Sustainable Tourism and International Development
Nature trails, especially educational paths and topic-based walking paths exist in various forms in Switzerland.
However, nowadays it is questionable if they serve their purpose anymore and if the environmental impacts are
higher than the advantages.
This bachelor’s thesis provides recommendations regarding the evaluation of existing nature trails in terms of
attractiveness and environmental disturbance. Furthermore, the bachelor thesis analyses the development
of digitalisation including chances and limits for the future.
Investigation and analysis of this topic may provide information of interest to the Stiftung Landschaftsschutz
Schweiz and nature trail operators to help improve the conditions for visitors and to ensure the conservation of
the environment.
The recommendations are based on gained knowledge from the interviews conducted with different players in
the nature trails sector.
The Airport as a Central Destination Decision
Criterion for Tourists
Diplomand/in Lars Geiger
Referent/in Prof. Dr. Thorsten Merkle
Korreferent/in René Puls
Auftraggeber/in Center for Aviation Competence HSG
Vertiefungsrichtung eCommerce and Sales in Tourism
An airport usually is one of the first touchpoints for travelers with a tourism destination. Since there is no second
chance for a first impression, it is vital to know if and how an airport influences a certain destination and represents
its image. Since global air transport demand is increasing, the competition between airports has risen simulta-
neously. The increasing number of airports available for travelers has opened a new competitive market. It has
thus become crucial for airports to represent their destination in order to attract new guests and bring former
guests back again.
The aim of this Individual Bachelor Thesis (IBT) is to investigate how opinions of tourists are affected by a desti-
nation’s airport. Therefore, the airport choice preferences of tourists in multi-airport regions are researched and
analysed. The methodological approach of this IBT involves an online survey with air travelers from all over the world.
Delay drivers of airlines with focus on punctuality
tolerance and departure slots
Diplomand/in Julia Gürtler
Referent/in Andreas Wittmer
Korreferent/in Sabrina Hermann
Auftraggeber/in Swiss International Airlines Ltd.
Vertiefungsrichtung Sports Management
The need for people to travel for business and leisure reasons is a key driver for the growth in the aviation industry.
Due to capacity shortage at airports and in the airspace, punctuality of airlines is an increasingly important topic.
Furthermore, punctuality is a key driver for passenger satisfaction and therefore important for airlines like Swiss.
In this IBT the turnaround process and delay drivers are researched and documented, in order to understand what
can hinder an airplane to be on time. To stop passengers from being dissatisfied about the service they receive,
it is important to understand the customer. That is why the purpose of this thesis is to understand the level of
delay which is still acceptable for travellers without being dissatisfied with the delayed airline. To get a perspective
of the supply side, the question on whether a change in departure-slots may affect punctuality in a positive way
is another aspect which is researched during the process of this thesis.
Ticketkonzept zur Umsatzsteigerung bei den
SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers mit spezifischen
Umsetzungsmassnahmen
Diplomand/in Seraina Heeb
Referent/in Alexander Schmidt
Korreferent/in Markus Bütler
Auftraggeber/in Lakers Sport AG
Vertiefungsrichtung Sports Management
13Potential for Boutique Hotels on minor Greek islands Evaluation of a Hotel location for Ledra Hotels Diplomand/in Linda Hollenstein Referent/in Norbert Hörburger Korreferent/in George Grouzakis Auftraggeber/in Ledra Hotels & Villas Vertiefungsrichtung Marketing and Product Development in Tourism The Greek islands have become very popular in the past years and major islands like Santorini Rhodes, Crete, Mykonos and Corfu belong to the top destinations in Greece. Ledra Hotels and Villas is a leading hospitality group of companies with various hotels on Crete and Corfu. Ledra Hotels and Villas’ philosophy stands for elevated luxury and authenticity. Based on an analysis about the Tourism and the availability of Boutique hotels on minor Greek islands, the thesis provides a guideline for the selection of a suitable location. The recommendations are derived from literature research and interviews with tourism and hotel experts from the area. Furthermore, the thesis describes the key components of a Boutique hotel concept, which is in line with Ledra’s philosophy. 14
Entwicklung und Umsetzung einer Kooperations-
strategie für Nidwalden Tourismus unter
Berücksichtigung von Synergien mit verschiedenen
Leistungsträgern
Diplomand/in Stefanie Huber
Referent/in Alexander Schmidt
Korreferent/in Christina Bucher
Auftraggeber/in Nidwalden Tourismus
Vertiefungsrichtung Marketing and Product Development in Tourism
zwei spezifischen Segmenten gegeben.
eindimensionalen Event Formaten
Diplomand/in Denise Hügli
Referent/in Prof. Roland Köppel
Korreferent/in Michael Dancsecs
Auftraggeber/in Standing Ovation AG
Vertiefungsrichtung Event Communication
ization grossen Wert gelegt.
15The construction of collective identities as risk for the tourism industry Diplomand/in Weiyi Jiang Referent/in Eric Dieth Korreferent/in Barbara Haller Auftraggeber/in haller-tournet GmbH Vertiefungsrichtung Marketing and Product Development in Tourism In cultural studies and cultural management, Hofstede's and Lewis' dimensions of culture play an important role. Motivated by a simplified approach to individual and collective identity, these approaches construct essentialist generalizations/stereotypes. Based on the negative experiences made because of nationalist dogmatism and on the individualization process taking place throughout the world, the second part of the IBT proposes a social-con- structionist approach to identities. Indeterminacy and contingency are core elements of this concept, which is why meeting people we don't know means to approach them on a cooperative basis to make sure that the developing reality gives equally satisfaction to all people involved. Against this backdrop, being a convincing host in the tourism industry means to treat guests as unique individuals, not as representatives of a group or nation. It furthermore means to be open-minded, creative and to be willing to walk a short path together. Supplementary Value-Added Services for Revenue Growth in Alpine Hotels during Off-Peak Season Diplomand/in Valeria Jörimann Referent/in Dr. Alex Gertschen Korreferent/in Henrik Vetsch Auftraggeber/in Fideriser Heuberge AG Vertiefungsrichtung Marketing and Product Development in Tourism Fideriser Heuberge (FH) is a mountain lodge-type accommodation and a popular winter destination which is located in Prättigau. During peak season, activities such as sledging and skiing are in high demand and therefore, FH enjoys high occupancy rates. To increase occupancy rates during off-peak season (from June to October), FH has put more focus on offers such as wedding services (WS) but it has not been a success. The main objective of this thesis is to provide advice to FH on how to improve their situation during off-peak season. We evaluate FH’s status quo using SWOT analysis which is based on literature review and multiple interviews to find out if WS fit well in the current strategic direction. Market conditions and competitors’ service portfolios are also analysed. Finally, prerequisites for success and recommendations in terms of strategy, positioning and marketing are provided. 16
«Erlebnisschlafen Churwalden»
Diplomand/in Jennifer Keller
Referent/in Monika Heeb-Lendi
Korreferent/in Andrea Maria Hemmi
Auftraggeber/in Churwalden Tourismus
Vertiefungsrichtung Marketing and Product Development in Tourism
Success Factors in the Development of a LGBT
Destination. A Comparison between Switzerland
and Israel
Diplomand/in Sandra Knaack
Referent/in Frieder Voll
Korreferent/in Herr René Böhlen
Auftraggeber/in Pink Alpine Bergwärts GmbH
Vertiefungsrichtung eCommerce and Sales in Tourism
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Tourism (LGBT Tourism) is a term that is becoming more and more widely
known. Although being a niche product, a growing number of destinations is interested in attracting this target
group. This is partly due to the fact that the LGBT community is gaining visibility and is therefore increasingly
being remembered by tourism providers, but also to the fact that there is often a high financial potential assumed
behind these guests.
The aim of this Bachelor thesis is to find out which factors make up a successful LGBT destination. A further
focus is placed on Switzerland as an LGBT destination and on Israel, the supposedly better-known LGBT desti-
nation. In a first step, the current state of knowledge about LGBT Tourism is worked out with the help of literature

17Visitor management at touristic hotspots in alpine areas – Control of visitor flow using the example of the mountain guesthouse Aescher in Appenzell Diplomand/in Laura Koller Referent/in Prof. Norbert Hörburger Korreferent/in Guido Buob Auftraggeber/in Appenzellerland Tourismus AI Vertiefungsrichtung Sustainable Tourism and International Development The iconic mountain guesthouse Aescher became well-known within only a short period of time due to social media and other media coverages. The result was a massive boost in the number of visitors from all over the world to a place that was previously known mainly by locals from the surrounding municipalities. This thesis provides recommendations to manage and better spread visitor flow both spatially and temporally in order to avoid a high concentration and thus, to diminish the negative effects of high use levels. Furthermore, it describes the attitude of the host community as both residents of the area and visitors of the guesthouse and suggestions on how to engage them. The latter is evaluated based on the results of a survey among locals. Additionally, possible visitor control measures and influencing factors on visitor behaviour are assessed and further analysed based on interviews conducted with managers of touristic hotspots and with an expert in the field of consumer behaviour. Significance of cultural tourism: Different forms of
cultural tourism and its added values in the cultural
ecosystem
Diplomand/in Nadine Lee
Referent/in Ramon Leemann
Korreferent/in Raimund Rodewald
Auftraggeber/in Stiftung Landschaftsschutz
Vertiefungsrichtung Event Communication
Cultural tourism seems to be omnipresent – however, it is a slippery concept with no commonly agreed
definition.
This thesis’ overriding intentions are to contribute to clarifying the definition of cultural tourism and assess the
added values cultural tourism entails.
For this purpose, a criteria catalogue based on cultural ecosystem services is elaborated. According to the most
current definition, ecosystem services describe the benefit human beings gain through the functions derived from
ecosystems.
Notwithstanding the increasing focus on cultural ecosystem services, there is still a need for further development
as to which values are addressed. The approach to combine it with cultural tourism is a new proposition.
In the framework of the elaborated criteria catalogue, three variant cultural offers in the canton of Grisons are
assessed – a living tradition: Chalandamarz; an object of the foundation: Ferien im Baudenkmal; and the example
of a cultural institution and festival: Origen.

Evaluating the implementation of Dynamic Pricing
for Swiss mountain railway companies and the
subsequent impacts on their profitability
Diplomand/in Matthias Michel
Referent/in Aurelia Kogler
Korreferent/in Christoph Egger
Auftraggeber/in Schilthornbahn AG
Vertiefungsrichtung eCommerce and Sales in Tourism
The Schilthorn – Piz Gloria is a major touristic hotspot within the Jungfrau Region and attracts many visitors
every year. Nowadays, the demand for winter sports tends to be in decline. Also, for the Schilthornbahn AG, the
total number of transported people through its ski lifts has slightly decreased over the last decade. However, with
its attraction business, the Schilthornbahn has a solid alternative and is - in comparison to many other cable car
companies – profitable. Some of the players on the market have started to experiment with different dynamic
pricing models.
This Bachelor thesis seeks to explore the different variables utilized for setting up dynamic pricing within the market
and the guests’ perception towards them. Furthermore, an estimate of the possible implications for a company’s
profitability, which arise from implementing a dynamic pricing strategy is provided. Eventually, the necessity for
the Schilthornbahn to introduce a similar pricing policy is discussed.
