Es wird wieder Sommer in Düsseldorf. Das
lässt sich nicht nur an den steigenden Tempe-
raturen festmachen, das verrät auch ein Blick
in den Veranstaltungskalender. Der Japan-Tag
im Mai, die Jazz Rally im Juni, Frankreichfest
und Kirmes im Juli und noch vieles mehr –
Düsseldorf bietet für jeden Geschmack etwas,
ist für Einheimische und Touristen gleicher-
maßen attraktiv. Dieses Jahr wird Düsseldorf auch wieder zum Dreh-
und Angelpunkt der weltweiten Gießerei- und Metallurgie-Industrie.
Das Messequartett GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS und NEWCAST,
das wie die drupa alle vier Jahre stattfindet, ist mit über 2.100 Ausstellern
aus aller Welt so gut wie ausgebucht; rund 78.000 Besucher werden zu
diesem Branchenhighlight erwartet. Nicht zu vergessen der CARAVAN
SALON, der wie jedes Jahr am letzten August-Wochenende startet und in
die Welt der mobilen Freizeit entführt. In diesem Sinn: Schöne Sommer-
tage in Düsseldorf.
It is going to be summer again in Düsseldorf. Not only can this be seen in the
rising temperatures, it also becomes apparent when you take a look at the calen-
dar of events. The Japan Day in May, the Jazz Rally in June, the France Festival
and the funfair in July and much more – Düsseldorf offers something for every
taste and is attractive for locals and tourists alike. Also this year, Düsseldorf will
once again become the hub of the worldwide foundry and metallurgy industry.
The trade fair quartet GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST,
which like drupa takes place every four years, is almost fully booked with over
2,100 exhibitors from all over the world; around 78,000 visitors are expected at
this highlight of the industry. Let us not forget CARAVAN SALON, which, like
every year, starts on the last weekend of August and captivates the world of
mobile leisure. On this note: Wonderful summer days in Düsseldorf.

Die „Bright World of Metals“ glänzt mit einem erstklassigen Anmeldeergebnis:
Rund 2.100 Aussteller aus aller Welt präsentieren sich vom 25. bis 29. Juni auf den
internationalen Leitmessen für Gießerei- und Metallurgietechnik, GIFA, METEC,
THERMPROCESS und NEWCAST. In zwölf Messehallen werden die Aussteller
das gesamte Spektrum von Gießereitechnik, Gussprodukten, Metallurgie und
Thermoprozesstechnik präsentieren. Die Liste der teilnehmenden Nationen ist
weltumspannend und reicht von „A“ wie Australien bis „V“ wie Vereinigte
Arabische Emirate. Entsprechend groß wird auch die internationale Reichweite des
Messequartetts sein. Mehr als die Hälfte der erwarteten 78.000 Fachbesucher reist

“Bright World of Metals”
Excellent registration figures for the “Bright World of Metals”: about 2,100 exhibitors from
all over the world will be showcasing their achievements at the leading international trade
fairs for foundry and metallurgical technology GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and
NEWCAST from 25 to 29 June. The exhibitors will be presenting the entire spectrum of
foundry technology, castings, metallurgy and thermo process technology in twelve different
halls. The list of countries participating is global and ranges from “A” for Australia to “U”
for United Arab Emirates. The international reach of the four trade fairs will once again
be impressively broad this year. It is traditionally the case that more than half of the
78,000 trade visitors that are expected to attend come from overseas and from European
countries.

wie „I Need a Dollar“, „Brooklyn in the Summer“ oder „Now That We found
Love“ so geht, wissen Sie spätestens ab Pfingsten, welche Künstler dahinter
stehen. Denn dann kommen der Soulsänger Aloe Blacc und die legendären
Reggae-Botschafter Third World live mit ihren Hits nach Düsseldorf zur
27. schauinsland-reisen Jazz Rally. Das Festival bringt vom 6. bis 9. Juni
verschiedenste Stilrichtungen des Jazz, aber auch Funk, Soul und Reggae in die
Stadt. Insgesamt rund 70 Konzerte auf 30 Bühnen erwarten den Rally-Fan.
So vielschichtig wie die Musik sind auch die Spielstätten. Hier findet jeder der
erwarteten 300.000 Musikfans „seine“ Musik – ob im Konzertzelt am
Burgplatz, in der Johanneskirche oder einem angesagten Club, auf der

Preisträger des Sparda Jazz Award auf dem Marktplatz sowie die traditionelle
Jam Session im Breidenbacher Hof.

Are you familiar with this? You hear a cool song on the radio, and you can even sing it
along. But who was the singer again? If you feel that this is the case with songs like
“I Need a Dollar”, “Brooklyn in the Summer” or “Now That We found Love”, you will
know at Whitsun at the latest which artists are behind them. Because this is when soul
singer Aloe Blacc and legendary reggae ambassadors Third World will come to Düsseldorf
to perform their hits live for the 27th schauinsland-reisen Jazz Rally. From 6 to 9 June, the
festival will bring various styles of jazz, but also funk, soul and reggae to the city. A total
of around 70 concerts on 30 stages await the Jazz Rally fan.
The venues are as multifaceted as the music itself. Here, each of the expected 300,000
music fans will find “his or her” music – whether in the concert tent at
Burgplatz, in the Johanneskirche (Johannes Church) or a trendy
club, on the open-air stage on Marktplatz (Market Square), at
the Landtag (State Parliament) or, for the first time, in the

Immer mehr Produzenten wird klar, dass Wein zugänglicher und integrativer sein

öffnet damit die Tür zu alternativen Marketing- und Verpackungsmethoden.
Getränke in Dosen sollen im Hier und Jetzt genossen werden und sind Zeichen
eines unkomplizierten Lifestyles. Besondere Ausstattung ist nicht nötig und die
Portionen kommen individuell verpackt im Behälter, in dem sie auch serviert

In Europa gibt es schon seit Jahrzehnten Wein aus Dosen, die wirkliche
Renaissance der Dosenweine begann jedoch in den USA kurz nach der Jahrtau-

Vom 5. bis 7. Juli verwandelt sich die Altstadt wieder in „Petit Paris am Rhein“:

Herz der Veranstaltung ist der Innenhof des Rathauses mit dem original französi-
schen Bühnenprogramm: Musikalisch untermalt von beliebten Chansons und

auf Austern, Champagner, Coq au Vin und Flammkuchen freuen. Veranstalter
des Frankreichfestes ist die Wirtschaftsvereinigung Destination Düsseldorf, die

lads. The order is sent to the kitchen just as easily by touching the send button on the
tablet. A large selection of beverages, amongst others, fine wines and self-made cocktails

From 5 to 7 July, the Old Town (Altstadt) will once again be transformed into “Petit Paris
on the Rhine”: Culinary delicacies and a colourful cultural and musical programme bring
joie-de-vivre à la française to the 19th France Festival in Düsseldorf. More than 100,000
visitors are expected to enjoy the savoir-vivre and to celebrate Franco-German friendship
at well over 100 stands.
The heart of the event is the courtyard of the Town Hall (Rathaus) with an original
French stage programme: Musically accompanied by popular chansons and French pop,
folk & rock music, the visitors can, amongst other things, look forward to oysters,
Champagne, coq au vin and tarte flambée. The organiser of the France Festival is the
business association Destination Düsseldorf, which also enriches city life with the
schauinsland-reisen Jazz Rally and is celebrating its already 30th anniversary this year.
A French weekly market welcomes visitors to the Rhine promenade: The wide range on
offer includes sausage, cheese and bread specialities, nougat and exquisite oils, as well as
ceramics, woodwork, clothing and soaps scented with lavender. France’s regions will also
introduce themselves and present their tourist highlights, including Alsace, the Breton
Riviera and Saarland, with a cross-border cooperation between Metz, Saarbrücken, Trier
and Luxembourg. Entertaining language courses, Jeu de Boule, French literature and a
tombola with attractive prices round off the three days in Bleu, Blanc, Rouge.
Vintage car fans will also get their money’s worth: When Burgplatz, parallel to the France
Festival, fills up with about 150 French vintage cars, countless visitors from near and far
stream into the Old Town (Altstadt). From here the historic vehicles start the traditional
“Tour de Düsseldorf”. The rally is the biggest meeting of French vintage cars in Germany
and will be heading towards Bergisches Land this year.

On 25 May Düsseldorf will once again be transformed into “Little Tokyo”: Hundreds of
thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad will flock to the North Rhine-Westphali-
an capital and enjoy Japan Day with its authentic programme mix of music, dance, sport
and culinary delights. In addition to London and Paris, the Düsseldorf region is home to
the largest Japanese community on the European continent. Around 7,000 Japanese live
in Düsseldorf, around 380 Japanese companies are active in the Rhine metropolis - and
Immermannstrasse, with its numerous Japanese shops and sushi restaurants, is reminiscent
of Tokyo or Osaka. No wonder that Japan Day is so popular. The culmination is the
brilliant fireworks display of the Japanese pyrotechnicians.

Producers are increasingly grasping that wine needs to be made more approachable
and inclusive if it is to engage a younger consumer base. The millennial generation,
for example, is far more interested in convenience and coolness than conceit, opening
the door to alternative marketing and packaging. Cans are indulgences of the here
and now, and an appreciation of a hassle-free lifestyle. No equipment needed: even
the single size serving container is included. And in the Instagram era, cans are
eye-catching as well.
Wine-in-cans has been around in Europe for decades, but it’s real renaissance began
in the USA at the turn of the century. In 2003, California-based Coppola winery was
the first American winery to launch wines in a can. They started with their Sofia
Blanc de Blanc sparkling mini, in 187 ml aluminum. This single size serving,
stemware included, hit big and was a game-changer. Especially light, slightly sweet
wines with plenty of spritz make fun in the can – f.e. a classic “terrassenwein”,

Die größte Kirmes am Rhein
Mit der größten Kirmes am Rhein feiert der über 700 Jahre alte St. Sebastianus
Schützenverein mit seinen mehr als 1.500 Schützen vom 12. bis 21. Juli den
Namenstag seines Schutzpatrons St. Apollinaris. Bereits zum 118. Mal wird 2019
die große Kirmes auf den Oberkasseler Wiesen am Rhein aufgebaut. Auf den
165.000 qm großen Festwiesen präsentieren Schausteller aus dem In- und Ausland
eine große Auswahl an Fahrgeschäften und bieten Spaß für die ganze Familie.
Höhepunkt ist das Feuerwerk am letzten Kirmes-Freitag, dem 19. Juli.
Biggest fun fair on the Rhine
Dating back more than 700 years and still going strong, Düsseldorf’s St. Sebastianus
shooting club boasts more than 1,500 members. With the biggest fun fair on the Rhine the
club will be celebrating the day of its patron saint, St. Apollinaris. For no less than the
118th time, the big funfair city will be erected from 12 to 21 July on its traditional,
picturesque site, on the Oberkassel Rheinwiesen. These meadows, which have an area of
165,000 sqm, will provide space for stallholders from both Germany and abroad, and a
wide range of rides, guaranteeing fun for all the family. An unforgettable attraction will
be the fireworks displays on the last Fridays of the fair.
