With 75 floors, the SLS Dubai Hotel & Residences
in downtown Dubai is one of the tallest hotels in the
region. Designed by architectural practice Aedas and
interior designer Paul Bishop, SLS Dubai has 254

The design of the hotel was inspired by elements of
Arab architecture. Based on the traditional shape of
»mashrabiya« also referred to as »harem windows«,

in an old warehouse in a block at the historic centre of
fishing town Olhão. The existing building represents the local
architecture of the area, which needed to be retained and
adapted. The ground floor features the kitchen, living room
and a new inner courtyard, while the bedrooms are located
on the upper floor. The materials and shapes characteristic
of this building type were kept and enhanced through the
addition of new units, such as an elegant spiral staircase.
The arches from the existing building and the new doors
(Janisol Arte 2.0) serve to create a connection between the
interior and exterior areas.

Finding a house by a lake and near a city is a
challenge even in Sweden, which is famous for its
many lakes. But a young pair of architects struck
lucky. Not far from Gothenburg, the couple came
upon a 9000 m2 plot.
Not every client would have had the imagination to renovate
an old hunting lodge in an overgrown nature reserve with a four
metre drop, but the architects Saga Karlsson & Edouard Boisse
had a vision of what life in nature could look like. Their new house
was to be subordinate to nature, thereby becoming a part of it.
The initial ideas of a tree house or a house made purely of glass

The house for the family of four has just 162 square metres of
