Wie die SOW 2019 nach Gstaad gekommen ist
Nach Austragungen in der Innerschweiz, im Wallis und in
Graubünden ist im Sommer 2019 das Berner Oberland mit Gstaad
als zentralem Austragungsort Gastgeber des Anlasses. Die
Destination Gstaad bietet alle SOW-typischen Attribute: OL in den
Bergen und die perfekte Kombination aus Sport und Ferien.
Geeigneten Rahmen suchen
Die Swiss O Week hat mittlerweile eine Form angenommen, welche
vom Austragungsort mannigfache Voraussetzungen erfordert. Die
verfügbaren Wettkampfgelände sind zwar wichtig, aber nicht alleine
matchentscheidend. Tatsächlich muss die Destination über eine
gewisse Grösse verfügen, um das Fundament einer SOW überhaupt
sicherstellen zu können. Im Zentrum der Anforderungen stehen
Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten und die Kapazitäten der
Transportinfrastruktur. Damit wird nachvollziehbar, dass in den
Schweizer Alpen nur eine begrenzte Anzahl Destinationen
Austragungsort einer Swiss O Week sein können. Nach einer
Analysephase wurden im Herbst 2014 die Tourismusdirektoren
unterschiedlicher Ferienregionen vom OK-Chef Marcel Schiess
besucht, um sie von den Qualitäten einer Swiss O Week zu
überzeugen. Die Ansprechpartner in den potentiellen
Austragungsregionen liessen sich rasch begeistern und bald schon
lagen mehrere Bewerbungsdossiers vor.
Die perfekte Übereinstimmung wählen
Der Zuschlag für die SOW 2019 ging im Frühjahr 2015 an Gstaad,
weil die Region alle gewünschten Seiten anbietet.

OL in den Bergen Der Charme von Gstaad mit seinen noch unentdeckten OL-Gebieten in den umliegenden Bergen liegt darin, dass man die eindrucksvolle Bergwelt stets wie auf dem Präsentierteller vor sich liegen hat und sie in vollen Zügen geniessen wird. Der Blick von der zweiten und dritten Etappe am Lac Retaud aus geht auf den Glacier 3000. Für die SOW-Gäste wird oben auf dem Gletscher eigens ein OL ausgesteckt. Als abenteuerliches Zusatzangebot nach den Etappen oder am Ruhetag sind Spass und Emotionen rund um die Bergstation garantiert. Das Wettkampfgelände der vierten Etappe auf dem Hornberg ist schon fast ein Balkon mit Fernsicht in alle Himmelsrichtungen. Das Ziel der fünften Etappe befindet sich unmittelbar bei der Talstation der Gondelbahn zum Ausflugsgipfel La Videmanette. Die Fahrt hinauf zwischen den engen Felswänden ist imposant und kann durchaus Nerven kitzeln. Unmittelbar unter der Adlerhorst-ähnlichen Bergstation soll ein Training kreuz und quer durch das dortige Felslabyrinth führen. Der Start zur sechsten Etappe auf dem Eggli liegt auf einer weiteren Loge mit umfassender Rundsicht. Auch das SOW-Training auf der Wispile bietet eine spektakuläre 360º- Aussicht, welche wohl jeden Trainingswilligen mehr als einmal ablenken dürfte. Doch spätestens bei der abendlichen Routenwahl- Diskussion wird der Blick wieder vom Kartenbild aufgesogen sein. How SOW 2019 came to be in Gstaad After hosting past SOW events in central Switzerland, Valais and the Grisons, it will now be the turn of the Bernese Oberland to hold the event in the summer of 2019 with Gstaad as the central venue. Destination Gstaad offers all the attributes typical of SOW events: orienteering in the mountains and the perfect combination of sport and holidays. Looking for a suitable frame In the meantime, the Swiss O Week has adopted a form which requires manifold pre-conditions from the venue. The available competition sites are important, but not alone match-decisive. In fact, the destination must have a certain size in order to ensure the foundation of a SOW at all. At the heart of the requirements are accommodation options and the capacities of the transport infrastructure. This makes it clear that only a limited number of destinations in the Swiss Alps can be the venue for a Swiss O Week. After an analysis phase, the tourism directors of various holiday regions were visited by the chef of the organising committee, Marcel Schiess, in the autumn of 2014 to convince them of the qualities of a Swiss O Week. The contact persons in the potential host regions were quickly enthusiastic and soon several applications were turned in. Choosing the perfect match In the spring of 2015 the contract for the SOW 2019 was awarded to Gstaad because the region offers all desired requirements. • New SOW region with classic Swiss holiday pictures in an imposing mountain world • So far a „white“ spot in regards of available orienteering maps • New, challenging orienteering areas • Transport infrastructures that have the carrying capacity • Perfect frame for relaxing holidays • Touristic and cultural offers that include something for everyone, big and small.

Orienteering in the mountains The charm of Gstaad with its undiscovered orienteering areas in the surrounding mountains lies in the fact that one will always see the impressive mountain world as if served on a platter. Participants of the SOW and their guests will be able to enjoy the sights to the fullest inclusive the pure mountain air. The view from Lac Retaud on the second and third stage stretches to the Glacier 3000. There will be an orienteering course set up on the glacier especially for SOW guests as an additional highlight and can be used after a stage or on the rest day which guarantees emotions and fun around the mountain station. The competition area of the fourth stage on the Hornberg is almost like a terrace with clear views in all cardinal points. The finish of the fifth stage is right by the valley station to the top destination La Videmanette. The ride up through the narrow cliff faces is impressive and can certainly be scary. On the other mountain side right under the mountain station resembling an eagle’s nest will be a training set- up leading crisscross through the cliff labyrinth. The start to the sixth stage on the Eggli lies on another terrace with a widespread view. Running the race we recommend that one does not get distracted by sights all around. For this the SOW-trainings such as on the Wispile that offers a spectacular 360º view might easily divert anybody’s eyes from reading the map more than once. However, at the latest during the route-choice discussions in the evening, the eyes will be absorbed again onto the orienteering map. La destination Gstaad offre tous les attributs typiques d’une SOW: La CO à la montagne et la combinaison parfaite du sport et des vacances. Recherche d'un cadre approprié La Swiss O Week s'est développée au fil des années et la marque a gagné en notoriété. En conséquence, des attentes très différentes sont soulevées, aujourd'hui, pour une ville hôte. Les terrains de compétition disponibles sont importants, mais pas seulement décisives pour cette manifestation. En fait, la destination doit avoir une certaine taille pour pouvoir garantir la fondation d'un cahier de charges. Le nombre de nuitées et les capacités pour le transport sont essentiels et se trouvent au centre des exigences. Il est donc compréhensible, que les destinations dans les Alpes suisses soient limitées, afin de devenir le pivot pour une Swiss O Week. Après la phase d'analyse, les directeurs touristiques des différentes régions de vacances ont été visités par le chef d’organisation Marcel Schiess en automne 2014. Il a pu les convaincre des qualités de la compétition SOW. Les contacts personnels dans les régions d'accueil potentielles ont été ravis, plusieurs dossiers de candidature ont été soumis rapidement. Choisir l'adéquation parfaite Le contrat pour le SOW 2019 a été attribué à Gstaad au printemps 2015 car la destination, à la frontière des Alpes bernoises et vaudoises, offre tous les souhaits : • Nouvelle région SOW avec des photos de vacances suisses classiques dans un univers de montagnes impressionnants • Jusqu'à présent une balzane sur la carte de la course d'orientation suisse • Nouveau terrain de course d'orientation stimulant

La CO à la montagne
Le charme de la destination Gstaad avec ses terrains de CO encore
inconnus se trouve dans les montagnes environnantes, un monde
de montagne impressionnant s'ouvre à l'hôte comme sur un plateau
de présentation. Les participants de la SOW et leurs compagnons
peuvent en profiter pleinement, y compris l'air pur de la montagne.
La vue de la deuxième et de la troisième étape au Lac Retaud
s’étend jusqu'au Glacier 3000. Pour le SOW, un événement spécial
de course d'orientation sera organisé sur le glacier. Une offre
complémentaire après une étape ou le jour de repos, les émotions
sont garanties autour de la station de montagne. Le terrain de
compétition de la quatrième étape sur le Hornberg sert presque
comme un balcon et offre une vue dans toutes les directions. A la
fin de la cinquième étape, la station aval de la télécabine est très
proche pour l'excursion au sommet de La Videmanette. L'ascension,
entre les parois rocheuses étroites, est impressionnante et
chatouillera certainement vos nerfs. De l'autre côté de la montagne,
directement en dessous de la station de montagne, comme une aire
d’aigle, un réseau sera préparé pour l’entrainement de CO, les
postes de contrôle mènent à travers un labyrinthe de roches. Au
départ de la sixième étape sur l'Eggli une loge avec une vue
panoramique complète. C’est aussi l’entrainement sur la Wispile qui
offre une vue spectaculaire à 360º, elle incite quiconque à regarder
vers le haut de la carte. Mais au plus tard avec la discussion du soir
sur le choix des routes, la vue est à nouveau absorbée par l'image
de la carte.
